1986 Audi Coupe GT 2.2L

Summary:

An eye-catcher, powerful ride

Faults:

Fuel injector distribution sensor burnt out.

General Comments:

Bought the car on August 2000.

Car is in immaculate shape, inside-out.

The car had a hard cold start when I first purchased it, and would loose power at about 3000-3500 rpms. After replacing the sensor, it runs like new. Have not seen another one like it. Have been told that most owners decide to keep them and restore them. That explains how hard parts are to find. Found out that I have a 15 gal fuel tank which means that it's an imported UK version.

Greetings;

I have purchased a 1986 Audi Coupe GT (UK) version and am in love with it. My friends and family think I am obsessed with my car.

How rare are these cars?

I live in Vancouver, BC and have only seen 2. This car kicks ass and am in the process of restoring the bodywork and a new paint job soon.

Was going to sell it until some long road trips and almost got a speeding ticket; but alas, just a warning.

AUDI GT Coupe

My father-in-law gave me an 86. I love it, but may have to sell it. Do you think this car one day will be worth a lot?

The only remotely collectible Audi from that era would be the Quattro, and even then prices aren't like those of Porsches. Not that there is anything wrong with Audis of the era, just marketplace whims.

I agree with the eye catcher part. I notice people in their cars on the other side of the highway constantly breaking their neck to see what kind of car your'e diving. Coupes have a very low looking roof-line due to the steep angled windshield. I have pimped mine out over the years, a few modifications, and such. I have to have one of the meanest looking red coupe GTs in America.

Did you ever sell this car?

Faults:

Just the little things that happen over time.

General Comments:

The only thing I don't like about this car is that the parts are so hard to find and expensive!

Purchased my 1986 Audi GT Coupe 2.2L 5 cylinder manual, in August 2000. This vehicle has a 15 gallon fuel tank which they tell me indicates it was imported.

The vehicle had hard cold starting, and would lose power at about 3000 rpm. After expecting to pay a high cost to fix, it was found that it just needed a fuel injector sensor replaced.

The car is intact, no rust or dents, and I just love it. After receiving it back from the shop, I am bewildered by the power and handling, as it is truly high performance now. I have looked all over to try and find or see another coupe, but just found out that they are pretty rare.

Just thought I'd comment on how great this vehicle is, and how every cent invested in it is worth it.

I bought an Audi GT Coupe 1986 5 cyl 2.2 L in 2011, and I love it. It's still in really nice shape and I like the performance, however I was wondering if this vehicle has a turbo in it or not, and if and how I could upgrade / tune this car?
