1986 Audi Coupe GT 2.2L from North America

Faults:

Just the little things that happen over time.

General Comments:

The only thing I don't like about this car is that the parts are so hard to find and expensive!

Purchased my 1986 Audi GT Coupe 2.2L 5 cylinder manual, in August 2000. This vehicle has a 15 gallon fuel tank which they tell me indicates it was imported.

The vehicle had hard cold starting, and would lose power at about 3000 rpm. After expecting to pay a high cost to fix, it was found that it just needed a fuel injector sensor replaced.

The car is intact, no rust or dents, and I just love it. After receiving it back from the shop, I am bewildered by the power and handling, as it is truly high performance now. I have looked all over to try and find or see another coupe, but just found out that they are pretty rare.

Just thought I'd comment on how great this vehicle is, and how every cent invested in it is worth it.

I bought an Audi GT Coupe 1986 5 cyl 2.2 L in 2011, and I love it. It's still in really nice shape and I like the performance, however I was wondering if this vehicle has a turbo in it or not, and if and how I could upgrade / tune this car?

1986 Audi Coupe Quattro Turbo 2.2 5 cylinder turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

A car so quick that you could easily get into trouble if it weren't for the quattro system - sticks to the road like nothing else and goes like it's got a rocket stuck to the roof.

No wonder it was such a good rally car!

Faults:

Local Audi dealer told me my poor starting problem would be cured by a £1200 service (car was only 4 years old at the time). AA fixed the problem in 2 mins flat (it was fuel pump related and needed a new relay only).

Have had an idling problem for a while which the garage have not yet totally cured. Original problem was that the idling RPM would climb to 2600-3000. Now they have worked on it, it just dies on me at the traffic lights!

General Comments:

Car has over 162K miles on it now and is starting to sound a bit tappity. It burns no oil and still gives me 34-36 to the gallon.

Would love a Coupe Quattro(old shape) with nil miles on it!

Has been an absolute pleasure to own.

Idle - sounds like a simple case of mixture and idle. I had the same problem with my GT Coupe 2.0 1984 with 208 Km on the clock.

Believe it or not, a chap in a wrecking yard told me this and fixed my problem.

Needs a clever allen key, apparently don't apply any pressure to the key when turning. Put the lights on to to simulate a load on the engine when re-setting the idle.

Trust this may assist.
