1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.7 360 HP

Summary:

A blast to drive. Watch out for the rain

Faults:

Plug wires went bad at 65,000. Guess I should have replaced them before that while I tuned up the car, but it is a pain to replace the wires on a Camaro.

Replaced the water pump at 67,000. It started to leak a little from the bearings so I replaced it for $120.

Engine light comes on now and then when I am driving it in 6th gear at 60mph. I believe it has something to do with the modifications on the car, but I am not sure.

Replaced the driver's power window switch.

General Comments:

I purchased this car for $10,000. It has been bored out 30 over. The air intake was moved to under the bumper. The clutch was replaced with a Corvette clutch to handle the increased horsepower. The computer chip was replaced to make up for the change in compression.

All in all the car is extremely fast at 360hp. Before the supercharger is added you have to add bracing to the car so you don't twist the frame. If you twist the frame the T-Top and windows will start leaking.

I love driving this car. You just have to watch out if it is wet. The tires will still spin at 70 MPH on the expressway if it is wet.

1994 Chevrolet Camaro 3.4 sfi

Summary:

The Camaro turns heads, but can turn heads away in regard to the engine

Faults:

I have had trouble ever since I bought the car with the car idling correctly. Until recently, it only presented a problem periodically, but now the check engine light comes on every time I drive and the car stalls constantly. I have tried to get to the root of the problem, but no mechanic has narrowed down and diagnosed what is causing it to stall.

I had the transmission checked, the computer checked, the clutch replaced and many other parts checked or serviced, but the problem has never gone away, just gotten worse. This is the only major problem I have had, but it has impacted how I feel about the car greatly. When you accelerate, the car hesitates and bogs up and down, like there's a misfire. It is very upsetting in regards to the performance of the vehicle, which can hardly seem to match that of a 1994 Ford Escort 4 cylinder station wagon!

Other than that, all repairs I have made were to be expected, not overly costly, but not cheap by any means.

General Comments:

The car looks and sounds incredible, it is noticed by everybody I drive by. There's a certain something about Camaros that are appealing in regards to look and sound, especially with an aftermarket exhaust bolted on.

The car handles incredibly, I have avoided accidents because of it and have always been pleased with the response from the steering on mountain roads and on the freeway.

As the driver, I am comfortable on long drives, displeased with the cargo space, but not expectant of more.

The body of the car, with the suspension and the final drive ratio makes this car go fast! It is easy to get speeding tickets with this car! It's not blindingly fast, but rather it's fun to drive with the manual transmission, and given it's not acting up at the time.

Have you checked the oxygen and fuel sensors? Also check to make sure that the plugs and wires go to the corresponding points on the coil to match the firing order of each cylinder. This may cure your idle and acceleration problems. Just some ideas seems how they were not mentioned in your article.

1994 Chevrolet Camaro 2 dr Coupe 3.8 petrol

Faults:

Nothing major, I have had it for two years and I love it but I should not have gotten it as a first car.

I need space and four doors. I hate letting people out and have to rent cars to haul stuff.

General Comments:

I would love to have this as a second car, so when I make it big watch out I'm going to get the top of the line as my play car. Camaro's are lovely.

Oh, don't go foreign.. Just because Chevy can't make a good car doesn't mean American is bad. Go to your Ford dealer and try some of their full size or mustangs. You should like them.

Don't never go foreign, you'll regret it. Stick with your country, man! Give Chevy another try. If you feel the same way, try Ford Mustangs, there not as good, but there a lot better than foreign cars! Trust me!

1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe 5.7 petrol

Faults:

Various bits of the interior trim have an annoying tendancy to vibrate & rattle, but no serious problems.

General Comments:

An awesome motorway bruiser. Good mpg despite engine size, and generally good handling except on bumpy minor roads.

Detroit's come a long way since the '70s.
