2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LS 4.2L V6

Summary:

Good ole Chevy; next I'll buy foreign

Faults:

Pinstripe came off twice.

Brake lights replaced.

Shifter knob was loose and you could spin it all the way around. It was hard to put into park and would not go into drive.

Shifter linkage broke.

Rear wiper recalled and replaced.

Reconditioned transmission because there was no reverse.

4WD went out, fixed, still doesn't engage in Lo now.

4WD light wouldn't go off, separate problem, not sure what they did to fix it.

Left front inner fenderwell cover falling off, they pinned it back up.

Wouldn't start or do anything, cleaned battery cables, reattached anti theft cable.

Water pump and serpentine belt replaced.

And the most recent unfixed problem is the blower only working on settings 4 and 5. I heard that's about $600.

General Comments:

Maybe it will be better now after 100,000 miles. Ha.

2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LS

Summary:

Too many issues with the truck

Faults:

I own a 2002 Trailblazer, LS with ~75,000 miles.

Like most people here, I started hearing the truck revving at start up. I live in CT so we have some pretty cold winters, I thought that was the reason so I would make sure the car was warmed up before pulling off and it would go away.

About a month ago the car started sounding like an 18 wheeler and the check engine light came on. My kids dubbed it the Stop 'N Shop Truck. It's horrible, the acceleration sucks and it's very annoying, people are behind me and the truck just won't go until it jumps into gear.

I had it tested and the computer showed the fan was running at a high speed and cylinder # 2 was misfiring. I had the cylinder issue repaired. Now I'm trying to find a fan clutch that I can afford to have a mechanic put if on for me. I won't take my car to a dealer, took it there and they told me I had a cracked head gasket that would cost me about $3500 to fix. Had someone else look at it and nothing was wrong with my head gasket. They are thieves.

I've been reading these posts all day, and other sites also, and with these many people complaining about the fan clutch, I would think GM would have done something already. I emailed them today and ask for assistance in paying for the replacement. I also intend on contacting the Dept. of Consumer Protection in CT to see what can be done. I've always had Nissan's, and decided to get the SUV, and this is what I get.

I hadn't spent a dime on surprise issues on any of my Nissan's when I owned them, traded one in at 99,000 miles with no problems. Can't wait to get rid of this truck. It's just too frustrating.

I bought my 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS at my local dealership, used 3 yrs. old, for approximately 17,995.00. I bought it in 2005, with an estimated 43,000 miles on it, very clean. Gave them my 1993 Thunderbird, very good condition, for the price of an extended warranty, you might as well say. I asked for previous history, and found that it was a "leased" vehicle that was turned back in, so I felt it had to be up to par. I was told the vehicle had never been wrecked. The same week the "fan blower" in my ac went out and was replaced under warranty. The air conditioning system has an odor that on the onset smells like musky, urine or some funky smell and has contined to have a "scent" since I have owned it. It eventually "blows off/out" after running a short while. I have maintained regular oil changes on the vehicle and have approximately 90,000 miles.

Last year, in 2008,I had problems with the clutch fan, thought it was the transmission first, because of the sound it was making. Could not afford for the dealership to fix it, at $550.00 while still making payments, so I bought a "generic" clutch fan and had someone who had worked there in the past put it on for me. It was beginning to make a peculiar sound again and took it to a dealership, out of town where I was a the time. He told me it was the water pump, plus the clutch fan, which was overthreaded. Both had to be replaced, close to $800.00, but have a genuine GM water pump, and a NAPA, clutch fan "under warranty". That work was done in July, and now having service engine light, troubles, with a diagnostic check saying my Cam shaft sensor and connector is bad, along with the crank shaft sensor. Same area all the other so called "guaranteed" work was done! This time the bill will be $404.80 from the dealership I bought it from. The other dealership, out of town says the vehicle would not crank if those were the problems. I really think that I am the one getting the "shaft", I am SO ready to get rid of this problem, gas guzzling, SUV.. and I owe a little less than $3,000.00 on it. It is a good riding vehicle and has been resourceful, with a baby, and cargo, transporting musical instruments and such, but it wasn't worth the money I paid, still having to pay, and could have bought a new one for the same price only a few years after owning it!
