2001 Dodge Intrepid SXT 3.5L V6

Summary:

Superb

Faults:

Nothing, except a few repairs here and there.

Mostly with the brake system.

General Comments:

This is one amazing car that I am proud to own. I have the SXT version which puts out about 250hp with a 3.5L V6. I have installed a Glass Pack and a K&N Cold Air Intake. I also bought some Rancho 5500 shocks and custom build headers. Besides all that I fixed my brake problem with some new ones. I bought some new tires and wheels. I have lowered the car about an inch. And I have to say this is one car I won't be selling anytime soon. I have not and will not change anything to the suspension at all unless I find a BMW one that fits. But until then not a thing, because the Intrepids suspension can hold it's own against BMW's & Porsche's.

2001 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.8 I think

Summary:

I would be hard pressed to offer anything positive about the 2001 Dodge Intrepid SE

Faults:

The engine has seized.

General Comments:

I feel in love with our 2001 Dodge Intrepid SE... but the love affair is now OVER! The car had been performing reasonably well, other than general maintenance we haven't had to put a great deal of money into it. Last week I got stranded on a major freeway (did I mention I was on my way to the airport to catch a flight... with my BOSS!). We were tooling along when suddenly I noticed the speedometer decreasing, but I was still giving it gas. Pulled over to the side of the road in time to watch smoke come pouring out from under the hood. Had the car towed to my regular service station (to the tune of $137.00) who has informed me that the engine has seized and will need to be replaced! The mechanic went on to explain that the engine was poorly designed not allowing for proper lubrication; it has since been modified. I would be very interested in the class action suit that was mentioned in previous reviews.

2001 Dodge Intrepid SE 3.2

Summary:

LEMON

Faults:

When I purcharsed the car they had to replace the engine as the 2.7 was awful and blew up, now have a 3.2 in and still having problems. There is 12,000 miles on the new engine and I have had the engine light on since the second day I bought it, I have it serviced and parts replaces for a total of about 3,000 and will have to probably have to donate blood to keep repairing it. I would not EVER recommend buying a Intrepid again. I have another dodge truck and am having similar problems with that also.

General Comments:

Don't buy a DODGE.

The timeline of events here is confusing. When you bought it, the engine blew up immediately? That smells like classic jerry rigging of a vehicle to unload it. That engine wasn’t in good shape when you bought it. Pre-purchase inspections are a must. If the engine light for the second engine was on from the second you got it, the engine wasn’t installed correctly. Hopefully you brought it back to the shop that installed it. You say you have “another Dodge truck” beyond this Intrepid. Did you convert this Intrepid to a truck or something?

2001 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7 Liter

Summary:

A Major DUD!

Faults:

Car engine locked up at 66K miles. Cost over $4000 to replace.

Chrysler sucks and honestly don't give a crap that they charged me $15K for a car that they refuse to stand behind engineering defects.

I will never buy a Chrysler product because of their business ethics.

Now, I have a problem with the condenser in the air conditioner and was quoted over $1000 to repair this.

The interior trimming pealed and broke off.

General Comments:

It's a shame that these cars turned out to be duds. They are pretty cars. However, visit any junk yard and you'll see plenty of "pretty" Intrepid's with blown engines.

Very disappointing! Bad, bad, deal. Do yourself a favor and find another car. Plus, they do not hold value. And, Dodge is no longer manufacturing this model...hmmm, I wonder why?
