1992 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V6

Summary:

A good vehicle for anyone who wants performance and power

Faults:

Had to put a new transmission in after the first week from driving it off the dealership.

Ran new brakes after they failed in the winter of 1999.

Installed a new fuel line in 1999 when it started leaking.

Now a small knocking in the engine, being fixed.

Fairly fast for an SUV.

General Comments:

This has been a great SUV, very strong reliable engine, always running no matter what, eats gas though.

Fairly good looking body with a few changes done to it.

Overall the reviews that I see here, the explorer seems to be about an 4 out of 5 rating. For a 4.0 Litre 4wd 20 MPG on the highway seems to be the best of all Midsize SUV. s with 160 HP.

Thanks all for your honest revies.

Of course Ill watch out for the lemons. There is about a dozen of a 100. Keep on truckin.

1992 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 V6

Summary:

A rat

Faults:

1. Rotors turned or replaced at every pad change (18k miles)!

2. Dumb cork valve cover gaskets drooling oil at 51K - expensive replacement "upgrade".

3. Heat shields on the exhaust falling off at 52K (strapped back on with stainless hose clamps).

4. Various switch failures.

5. Mad rust in the rear rocker panels.

6. Air conditioner condenser leak (no wreck) at 75K.

7. Transmission rebuild at 70K. Front diff rebuild at 70K (4WD not abused!).

8. Transfer case failure at 120K.

General Comments:

I kept it too long, but always felt I should hang on after a big repair. Now I have a 4Runner - much nicer all around.

Preventive maintenance will take care of a lot of problems...

If you don't RIDE your brakes, they will last, learn to use your gears, that's what they are there for, don't be afraid to use 2nd gear down hills, it saves your brakes.

I did oil changes every 3500 miles. Transmission fluid and differential oil changes every 15k.

I've driven many cars and trucks over 100K miles, never had brake problems. Never replaced a clutch before 130K miles, don't 'ride' the brakes.

Nope, that Exploder was just a big old RAT!

1992 Ford Explorer XL 4.0 L

Summary:

Superior value

Faults:

4 wheel drive electronic shift armature burnt out and had to be replaced.

General Comments:

Excellent vehicle. I have driven 140,000 miles with this SUV and as healthy as the engine is I expect it to last another 140,000. The paint job looks good and everything works.

1992 Ford Explorer 4-door, 2 wheel drive V-6

Faults:

Nothing...occasionally the voltmeter will not work, maybe once a month...probably a faulty ground somewhere. Other than that, very good vehicle!

General Comments:

Ford trucks #1.
