2002 Hyundai Accent

Summary:

This car SUCKS!

Faults:

Ever since I purchased the car it has not "felt" right. It idles too high - even when I'm in park. Just recently I was at a stop light at a complete stop & the car was idling between 3,000 & 4,000 RPM's and started moving forward even though I have my foot on the break. When I got to my destination I put it in park and the motor was reving as if I was going 80 miles per hour. When I called the dealer he told me he knew what the problem was even before I had finished describing it - so apparently, they've had a lot of people bring their cars in for the same problem. He told me it was a sensor, but I am afraid it is the transmission.

General Comments:

This car might be cheap, but having to pay $200.00 for a sensor all the time or possibly having to replace the transmission makes this car SO NOT WORTH IT!

The transmission cannot make the car rev up. The transmission takes the engine power and delivers it to the wheels. Comments like you thinking it's the transmission lead me to believe you don't know much about cars in general.

Of course the dealer knew about it. Things that keep the revs up are pretty simple to diagnose, as cars have done that on occasion since the old days. It doens't mean a lot of Accent owners have had the problem, but that it's a basic diagnostic fault. In every manufacturer's repair manuals, revving too high is one of the "common problems" they tend to diagnose. Don't believe it? Go randomly grab a Chilton's or Haynes manual and look it up.

2002 Hyundai Accent LX

Summary:

An overpriced piece of garbage

Faults:

The rear braking system failed and had to be replaced.

The windshield was etched by the factory and had to be replaced.

The paint was defective and the front bumper had to be repainted.

The transmission never worked right, was replaced and the new one is still not shifting correctly.

General Comments:

Poorly made vehicle, the good warranty it comes with is fine, if you don't mind having to take it to get fixed every other week.

"Overpriced" and "repairs every other week" are such exaggerations, I doubt any of the other statements by this person. He/she obviously chose the wrong car for them, and simply do not like it.

2002 Hyundai Accent

Summary:

A great deal, a great car and a great warranty!

Faults:

I was in a car accident in which my car ran off the road- it took a month to repair. But the parts were easy to find and replace. The hardest part was that I went to buy a new rim and the tire store I went to order the Hyundai Accent rim- but it didn't fit exactly. I had to go buy a new rim from the Hyundai Dealer.

2002 Hyundai Accent GL

Summary:

Worried about future problems

Faults:

I had to replace the wind shield wiper motor.

General Comments:

I have had the car for 2 years (going on my third year), and have just had the windshield wiper motor replaced. I dont think that is a normal thing to replace after such a short time! Because I have so many kilometers on the car, I am beyond the warranty and am now worried about the car breaking down.

My alternator is also starting to go. It has started to waver when I start the car, and sort of lurches forward when I put it into gear.

I did love the Accent a lot, but now I'm hearing all these bad comments about Hyundai's and I'm nervous that I have made a bad purchase. I was thinking of selling the car, and just buying another Accent for the new extended warranty they are offering (I bought mine with the 3 year bumper to bumper)

Has anyone else had problems such as this? Is anyone really happy with their car (and has had it for more than 3 years). It would be so reassuring to know that my car won't fall apart only after 2 years!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I purchased my brand new accent in 2002, and in under four years my wiper's motor went also. Just thought I'd comment on the original post as the same thing happened to their car.

I've found that the quality of the paint and structure is very poor, as it chips and bubbles easily and just looking at it you'll get a dent (poor materials).
