1998 Infiniti I30

Summary:

OK, but pray the fuses remain intact

Faults:

Radio fuse repeatedly shorted out and caused complete engine failure after less than 1,000 miles. It took a lot of complaining to dealer and insisting that this is not "normal" for anyone to take us seriously and attempt to correct the problem. An expert had to be brought in from Japan to solve the problem.

Air bag light came on at 40,100 miles. Diagnostic at dealership revealed drivers side module failure, causing entire air bag system to shut down. Cost to fix was approx. $600. Complaints to Infiniti North American that this safety feature should not fail at 40,100 miles -- especially when no "wear and tear" was involved -- fell on deaf ears. Dealership admitted that any of the other three air bag modules could also fail at any time.

General Comments:

This is a luxury car in a highly competitive market. Yet, Infiniti North America seems unwilling to offer above and beyond customer service or make any good will, good faith gestures to satisfy a loyal customer.

I recently tried to trade in my 98 Infiniti I30t which has 131,000 miles and a flashing Airbag light. The car dealer would not take the car as it was. My airbags lights have been coming on since around 53,000 miles and have continued to do so every 10,000 miles or so. I was taking it in to the Infiniti dealer to fix them which always seemed to be one sensor or another or one of the airbags needed to be replaced. At 90,000 miles I could no longer afford to keep fixing this problem. Like an idiot I was thinking it was some type of regular maintenance check. The infiniti dealer kept sticking it to me everytime I took my car in.

1998 Infiniti I30

Summary:

Was pleased, would not buy another

Faults:

Air bag light went on at 76,000 Diagnosis as bad sensor for side air bag, drivers side. Extended warranty does not cover. Cost was $600 to fix. Two months later light again starts flashing. Diagnosis is now the passenger side bag. Warranty does not cover again.

General Comments:

Dealership sold extended warranty to cover bumper to bumper on all NON wearable parts. Customer service was very poor, do not stand behind car. For both airbag modules to fail in 3 months is unacceptable.
