Radio fuse repeatedly shorted out and caused complete engine failure after less than 1,000 miles. It took a lot of complaining to dealer and insisting that this is not "normal" for anyone to take us seriously and attempt to correct the problem. An expert had to be brought in from Japan to solve the problem.
Air bag light came on at 40,100 miles. Diagnostic at dealership revealed drivers side module failure, causing entire air bag system to shut down. Cost to fix was approx. $600. Complaints to Infiniti North American that this safety feature should not fail at 40,100 miles -- especially when no "wear and tear" was involved -- fell on deaf ears. Dealership admitted that any of the other three air bag modules could also fail at any time.
This is a luxury car in a highly competitive market. Yet, Infiniti North America seems unwilling to offer above and beyond customer service or make any good will, good faith gestures to satisfy a loyal customer.
I am having the exact same problem. 600 bucks is steep. = (wonder what happens if I don't fix it.

Don't bother fixing it.
Just cover the lamp with black tape.
And fasten your seat belt.
My girlfriend told me not to buy any Nissan Products
because their overall quality control is lacking. So, I
took your advice and put black tape over the blinking
red light. I think we should start a class action
lawsuit and have them recalled for BAD Air Bags!!
I recently tried to trade in my 98 Infiniti I30t which has 131,000 miles and a flashing Airbag light. The car dealer would not take the car as it was. My airbags lights have been coming on since around 53,000 miles and have continued to do so every 10,000 miles or so. I was taking it in to the Infiniti dealer to fix them which always seemed to be one sensor or another or one of the airbags needed to be replaced. At 90,000 miles I could no longer afford to keep fixing this problem. Like an idiot I was thinking it was some type of regular maintenance check. The infiniti dealer kept sticking it to me everytime I took my car in.
There is a procedure to reset the air bag module. I had the same problem with my air bag light, after some research I found a way to fix it without costing a penny.
While the car is off, open the door, and turn the key to the on position and press the door side switch at LEAST 5 times within 7 seconds (personally, I just kept pushing the switch as many times as I could during 7 seconds)
- After doing that, wait one second
- Now move the key to the (1) position (between LOCK & Accessory)
- Close the door, move the key back to the LOCK position and then start the engine.
If you are wondering what the door side switch is, it is the button the door pushes when you close the door to turn the interior light off.
I had the same problem with my 1998 Infinity I-30 and had the Airbag replaced by the dealer. ($1200 total cost to replace)
One month later the blinking light came on and I resorted to putting tape over the light.
I finally called a third party repair outfit that came to my house and reset the light for less than $100 and then showed me how to reset the light myself should it ever come back on. The technician informed me that the Airbag is good unless it has been activated. It has been a year now and I have not had any problems with the Airbags.
In my opinion, Airbag repair is a huge cash cow for the dealerships.

I tried the reset proceedure on my blinking light. (dated 17 FEB 2006 08:33) It worked! The light went out. I had to try it a few times before I got the sequence entered correctly. Thank you.
Note: I took my car to the dealer a year ago with the same problem. Cost me: $525.00.
Greetings.
I just wanted to add that this procedure didn't for me with several tries. On a whim, I replaced the fuse (it was grimy looking, but didn't really look like it needed to be replaced), and tried again. This time I was immediately successful.
Whether it needed to be replaced or not, that little fuse was a LOT cheaper than getting it serviced would have been.
Thanks for the help!!!
Hi, can you tell me which fuse did you change I had the same problem, but the reset procedure doesn't work after several tries.
Thanks.
I tried the reset method and it worked on the first try. Basically stumbled upon this at first look into the light going off and happy I did! Light was set off blinking after a hard hit over some railroad tracks.
I have a 1999 Infinity I30 and I am having issue with the car jogging. I have spent $1200 trying to fix it, but still having the problem. They scan the car and they came up with a 400 code which they say is a sensor issue and the ERG valve which they say they fix, but the car is still jogging. Can someone help and explain what is actually wrong with this car.
I posted an earlier comment when I failed to read the last sentence about resetting the Air Bag warning light. Oops!
I followed the comment posted 17th Feb 2006, 8:33 and was able to successfully reset the Air Bag flashing light.
Thanks a million.

The airbag reset from the 2/17/06 post worked for me too. Thanks. What a wacky solution.
A used car dealer showed me the airbag light trick. It worked. I was going ot try and trade my car at the local Nissan dealer, for a toyota, ha ha.. but it broke down in the parking lot- maybe it was trying to tell me something. I bought a starter, the airbag light annoyance is gone thanks to the door button trick. It runs like a top at 123,000 miles. Guess I will keep it. Not a bad vehicle, but the best vehicle for the money in my book, used, is a Toyota 4 runner.
I have tried the airbag trick a few times and can't seem to get it to work. Overall I love my car. I bought the 1998 I30T new and it has had very little problems. I did replace the Alternator 2 times though. Let me know where I can get more info on the blinking airbag light.
