1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Summary:

Extremely reliable after 10 year's!

Faults:

Tape player (ate tapes - due to overuse). The fuel pump went after 90,000 miles.

General Comments:

Terrific vehicle!

10 year / 100,000 mile warranty covered both of the above problems.

Just changed the plugs and they are CLEAN!

Previous car was a Honda which started to disintegrate after 18,000 miles. I bought a 1989 Honda Prelude SI, based upon the reviews and high resale value, to replace a 1985 Chrysler Laser (first non-Chrysler vehicle since 1971). The Laser is STILL running; the Honda never ran without problems, despite the high cost.

How can you rate this 10/10 economy? especially compared to a Honda.

Am guessing you have never got better than 25mpg.

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee In Line 6

Summary:

I found my best buy for my buck when I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee truck.

Faults:

Not many things have gone wrong, I seem to go through front brakes rather quickly, but I do the work myself most of the time.

My gas door won't stay closed, it releases from inside the car and the pin broke from inside where the cap is, now this is an expensive job due to the labor. the actual cable is inexpensive.

Its time to change my original front shocks.

And lastly the only major problem I have has to do with my four by four. When I engage it, I get a slightly ruff and louder ride. But it certainly works fine.

I wouldn't take another SUV for my purposes and within my means by no means. I'm very happy with my first and definitely not my last Jeep SUV.

General Comments:

This one really has the power and handling that I look for in a vehicle, and it makes me and my family feel very safe.

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0 Liter

Summary:

A great all around car that is well worth it

Faults:

The catalytic converter had to be replaced at 40,000 miles.

The cat back exhaust had to be replaced at 67,000 miles. A hole had developed.

An extra clamp was placed on the catback exhaust because of rattling against the frame.

General Comments:

The car still runs very well and has no engine or drive train problems to date.

The spare tire takes up a fair amount of trunk space.

The first thing that caught my eye about your was the mileage. You are in for a surprise when I tell you my Jeep Grand Cherokee has over 231,000 miles. Granted I rebuilt the top of the engine at around 150,000 miles, it was well worth the price. Small problems with tubes and pumps will occur like with any car, and eventually, like I have experienced a large problem will present itself. Sadly, my Jeep has experienced valve problems and has a clicking sound when running. I still love everything about her though. Good luck and hopefully your luck with Jeeps will be as pleasant as mine has been.

I have a 93 Grand Cherokee Limited, and I too have valve problems, but I have 348000 on mine and I use it on and off road all the time; lots of highway driving, and I wouldn't give it away for the world. I even bought a 95 Grand Cherokee Laredo, and it too is also a daily driver with 230000 on it, but I couldn't pass up on the price tag so I bought it.

Thanks, Geoff

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 6 cylinder

Summary:

It's a great vehicle for on or off road driving

Faults:

The positive-terminal, battery cable corroded inside the protective coating and had to be replaced twice.

The placement of the battery made it difficult to replace the bulb in the headlight on the battery side.

The clip that hold the visors in place broke on both visors before 25,000 miles.

The stereo and speakers deteriorated after 8 years of ownership.

The front rotors were a problem, as they were constantly having to be turned or replaced due to warping and/or wearing down. According to the mechanics, this is typical on Grand Cherokees.

The anti-lock braking system failed occassionally on bumpy surfaces. Pumping the brakes once usually corrected this problem.

The water-pump went out and had to be replaced twice, which wasn't bad over a stretch of 177,000 miles.

The fuel-pump also had to be replaced at 87,000 miles.

The catalytic converter had to be replaced at 90,000 miles, as it began to rattle.

The transmission started growling in reverse gear at 100,000 miles. Never affected performance.

Transmission was slow to engage in severely cold weather. It jumped back and forth from 2nd to 3rd gear when accelerator was pressed to the floor, going up steep grades. This worsened as the vehicle logged more miles.

General Comments:

Overall, I loved my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I traded it in on a 2000 Grand Cherokee. It was very comfortable and reliable. Great in the snow. The engine and transmission stayed strong throughout the 9.5 years I owned it. Front brakes/rotors were its biggest fault.
