1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.2L

Summary:

Be ready for a lot of little troubles

Faults:

3 injectors have gone bad, I replaced all 8 myself for $180 and two hours effort.

Both Visor clips broke, They are very thin. I picked up a pair at the local junk yard for $10.

The display on the radio started blinking on and off and eventually went out totally. This took me about 2.5 hours to repair. Not a big deal, but aggravating. I will fix anyone's for $60.

Left rear window motor is not working, I'll wait till the weather warms up again for this one. Priced the motor @ ~$25 (Parts Store) and 2 hours.

Leather drivers seat was worn through when I bought it. The replacement was $60 at the junk yard.

Clear coating is pealing off of the clad molding on the drivers side.

Replaced the tailgate lift struts. $55.

No major mechanical troubles in the last 10 months.

General Comments:

This SUV has the factory towing package with the extra cooling capacity that goes with it. With that said, it seems to take forever for the Jeep to heat up on cold winter days - 15-20 minutes.

Has excellent power to the ground. Feels powerful through the whole power curve.

Gas mileage is on the poor side with an overall average of 17mpg. I would attribute this to the Quadra-trac full time 4X4.

A lot more room than my former Sidekick, and fairly comfortable.

I don't like the long reach to the radio/CD controls.

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L Inline six

Faults:

The head gasket blew at 144,000.

Center column lid that opens is cracked.

Ceiling has started to drop down or come off.

Rear door does not want to stay up.

General Comments:

This Jeep does wonders off the road.

I have never seen a stock four wheel drive car perform so well.

I have broken many items off roading, but it took a great deal to do so.

This vehicle is my everyday driver.

It can go through any type of terrain you put in front of it, and still look good down the drag.

It has no problem using 23 gallons of gas.

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Inline 6

Summary:

Not for everyday use, but a great special purpose vehicle

Faults:

Power antenna broke and was replaced.

Muffler rusted out.

Oil pressure sensor stopped working.

Rust developed on bottom of doors.

General Comments:

Although this vehicle is now nearly 10 years old (since manufacture) it looks and rides great. With all the options installed, it drives like a luxury car. It is sufficiently roomy, but shorter than it looks and very easy to park. The 4WD will not disappoint. It gets you through in almost any kind of weather. The cabin is somewhat noisy from the sound of the engine and gas mileage is not economical. Overall, these vehicles are an excellent value and ride great, but I would not recommend any 4WD (Jeep or otherwise) as everyday transportation.

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado 4.0 straight 6

Summary:

A very reliable and quality car, and the best in the snow

Faults:

Sensors and other electrical equipment have failed throughout the time I have had this car, but repairs have never been over $50. This is an overall reliable car and is very good in the snow. It protects you in almost every situation. I just recently got in a car crash. I hit the back of a car going almost 50 miles an hour without even touching the brakes. Even though the car is so old, the air bag worked fine and I didn't even feel anything. I wasn't sore the day after or anything. Although it is big and does not have very good road handling it is very reliable and has never failed on me. Although I probably can't keep this jeep cause of the damage I am looking for another one because I trust them and I know they are reliable.

General Comments:

Sensors and the rotors fail every so often, but the car does have a very good stopping distance.

This jeep does lean in the corners, but the back will slip out before it leans too much.

Vibrates at hight speeds (80 and up) but that might just be the age or the tires.
