2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7

Summary:

Attractive, but too many problems

Faults:

The water pump has gone bad twice.

The hood struts have been replaced and are bad again.

The blower for the heat and A/C is broken.

Both front windows are broken.

There is a ticking noise in the motor upon starting the car and while idling.

Sharp turns create a horrendous groaning noise.

Check engine light is constantly on.

And now my trunk won't stay open.

General Comments:

I am sure there are other things I am forgetting. It is such a shame that these cars have so many problems, because they are good looking cars. We fortunately haven't had to spend too much money on it because my husband has done all of the work himself, but it is such a hassle.

FYI: Make sure your keys are completely out of the ignition before opening your gas cap. This will prevent your check engine light coming on.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Summary:

I do love my Jeep but it is full of mechanical problems

Faults:

Overheated while sitting still took to dealership had coolant fan sensor replaced. Less than a year later it is overheating again.

Water pump had to be replaced by dealership.

2 weeks later serpentine belt broke and Jeep has to be towed.

Driver and passenger power window motors had to be replaced.

Passenger side heated seat broke.

Rear gate will not open now needs to be repaired.

AC does not blow while speeding up.

Oil pressure gage goes up and down need to have it checked.

General Comments:

For overall look and comfort this Jeep is excellent.

It is a comfortable ride and is great on gas.

All of the problems have happened one after another and this Jeep has less than 100,000 miles on it.

This Jeep has cost a lot to keep on the road and new problems keep occurring.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado 4.0

Summary:

No more jeeps for me

Faults:

Window regulators in 3 of the 4 power windows, all after the warranty had expired. $250 ea replaced myself.

Fuel pump twice at 65,000 and 105,000, not under warranty $500 a pop.

Crankshaft sensor 1200 miles, fixed under warranty.

Voltage regulator 1200 miles fixed under warranty.

ECM computer 1200 miles under warranty.

The left tail light blowes about every 500 miles no matter what I do. Keep several on hand.

I'v gone thru about 5 gas caps, they don't pass inspection for more than a few years.

Air conditioner needs a can of coolant about once a month, leak to small to find.

Parking brake cable stretched over time and failed inspection after 5 years.

Check engine light stays on most of the time because of a small vacumn leak that no one can find.

Engine dies once and a while but always starts back up, no one can duplicate the problem so I just live with it.

General Comments:

Jeep rides vary good and is vary quite on the highway.

Gets 21 mpg most of the time on the highway.

Tows pretty good lots of torque and handles a trailer better than you would expect.

Jeep is pretty tough, has not developed a lot of rattles or noise over the years.

Still looks pretty good.

Suspension and body are vary tight and appear like they will hold up for a long time.

This thing is paid for and every mile I get out of it os money in the bank so that is why I continue to drive and work on this thing, if I was paying for it it would be traded in by now, if I couldn't do most of the work on it myself it would be gone. It's just to convienent a vehicle to get rid of right now. You can take the family out to dinner, take the boat to the lake and not worry about getting back up the boat ramp, go to the lumber yard in it, commute and take trips on the highway. I just wish it was built with better parts and didn't need worked on all the time.
