1992 Lexus LS 400

Summary:

A really expensive Toyota Avalon

Faults:

Even upkeep is expensive on this car; $1000 for full tune up. Rims tarnished badly; $625 a piece from a dealer.

Power steering pump bad; $1300.

A/C went out; $1000.

Rear view mirror stuck on dimming position; $500.

General Comments:

I have always wanted a Lexus, and I have owned Cadillacs, Lincolns and Mercedes.

It's a nice car, but not worth $1000 for almost every repair, and it's nearly impossible to find these in junkyards.

Lexus dealerships seem to have a snobby attitude and parts are stupidly expensive.

Reliability was good, and it better be at the prices it cost to keep the car! I understand that high end luxury cars are generally higher than a mainstream car, but this is a bit much; repairs exceed way beyond Lincoln, Cadillac and even Mercedes Benz on certain things.

I believe it's a good car, but it's best to get a one new or leased, because once it breaks the price costs about as much as a two mortgages!!!

Look and design was nice, but not as flashy or elegant as other domestic or german luxury cars.

Comfort is about the same as a Toyota Avalon. I'm not knocking the car, but if you have owned American or German luxury, stick with Cadillac, Benz and Lincoln; I know I will.

Mileage says it all. What do you expect with 250,000 miles?

What does mileage have to do with repairs??? I think he was referring to the overall cost of ownership; the car was reliable, but way overpriced to repair.

Well, if you're looking for a car that is cheap to own you shouldn't go for such an advanced older car. You should know that well engineered, technically advanced older cars are expensive to own. The same thing goes for older Mercedes and BMW's. Cars need maintenance, and the more advanced they were when new, the higher the cost. I just can't see what you are complaining about, with such high mileage. It's a Lexus, not a Ford or a Buick.

1992 Lexus LS 400

Summary:

The most loyal, reliable, comfortable vehicle on the market

Faults:

The A/C broke somewhere around year 10 but the interior is light so it's not that bad.

Part of the front seat mechanics don't work anymore (also year 10) but the seat is in the right spot so it's OK.

Little bit of rust showing this year after 13 years. Not too bad.

Windshield solution pump broke, year 10. Easy fix. Did it myself.

General Comments:

This is the best purchase we ever made of a used car. I was leary in the beginning because the price was high for a used car, but it has really paid off.

The fact that it needed premium fuel also turned me off, but what I have saved in aggravation over the years I no longer care. Even with today's gas prices.

No major repairs needed since we have owned it. This car is so loyal and willing to run.

I will drive this car until the it dies and I will be really sad when it does.

1992 Lexus LS 400 V8

Summary:

The best value in the used-car market.

Faults:

I've had the usual '92 LS400 problems: Temp/Clock display is out, A/C died at about 200k, and Power Steering leak.

Have not repaired A/C yet...we'll see how hot this summer gets. Temp/Clock display will probably never be fixed.

Car was well maintained by first owner and that has helped. First owner was religious about Oil Changes, and general maintenance.

Just started developing a Noise and Vibration that I haven't isolated yet, but it sounds/feels like something in the drive train.???

General Comments:

This is one of the greatest cars ever manufactured. A perfect balance of performance and comfort. Very composed.

The build-quality, durability, and reliability are quite simply beyond belief.

I purchased my '92 LS400 in 1999 for $12,500. It had 150,000 miles on it and everyone said I was crazy to buy a car with mileage that high. 5 years and 75,000 miles later the car looks new, it feels new, and outperforms most new cars.

I'm taking this beast to 300k and smiling the whole way.

The Lexus ls 400 is the best car I have ever had. I am a very wealthy person (not my own choice) actually hate being able to buy whatever I want... But the Lexus is the best car I ever bought. I also love the Bentley Mulsanne. Buy one.

Paul. made some money. who cares.
