1993 Mazda MX6 2.0

Summary:

The best car to drive

Faults:

Head light burned out.

Exhaust fixed.

Changed the timing belt as recommended at 100 000 KM.

Had the air conditioning fixed, low and high pressure hose's replaced.

Idle air control valve cleaned, caused the car to stall.

Had an idle speed check and adjustment.

Valve cover gasket replaced.

General Comments:

The routine maintenance can be expensive, but you can do most of it yourself and cheaper. Have the dealer do the rest, it will be worth it.

1993 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5 V6

Summary:

The car looks newer than a '93 and handles with technology of today's cars

Faults:

I have not had anything go wrong with the car, except the leather on the driver's side is starting to come apart.

General Comments:

The car is extremely fast and with each mod it gets faster and faster.

It handles very well, but there is a little too much body roll.

The car has no troubles as long as you keep it maintained with oil and keep water in it.

1993 Mazda MX6 Base 2.0

Summary:

Practical sexy car, no power or muscle here

Faults:

Replaced the right control arm's bushings, the original spark plug wires, timing belt, and just the regular maintenances; mufflers, pipes, etc... Nothing major, even at 201,000 miles!

Prepare to replace some of the instrument's light bulbs - they like to go out.

General Comments:

It's a great car! Looks sexy and a design that never dates. The interior (the seating and inside body panels) look and feel cheap but it's survivable; however I don't recommend taking the inside door panels off to replace speakers or anything for that matter - the door panels do not fit back in place easily and parts tend to fall off from the door panels too. Too many clip on parts... what happen to the good old reliable screws?

1993 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5

Summary:

A luxury sports car

Faults:

- Check engine light on at speeds over 120 kph, started @ 120,000 km.

- Had to replace the clutch twice, first @56,000 km and secondly @ 135,000 km.

- Had to replace entire drive-shaft @ 100,000 km, left and right.

- Replaced the sunroof mechanism which was defective but it was covered by the warranty. Paid $60 cad for the labour.

General Comments:

Performance and styling is very appealing but be ready to spend some money for regular maintenance and repairs.

Overall the MX6 has outdone itself in comparison to other manufacturer's models in its class.

1993 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5L V6

Summary:

If you can find a V6 that's not been abused, go for it!

Faults:

Minor squeaks and rattles in the cabin.

Electrical short-out prevented starting once (probably unusual).

Replaced left-front tie-rod end.

Cracked catalytic converter replaced.

Left rear brake leak at hand brake linkage (not yet fixed).

Inexplicable hesitation, causes jittery acceleration.

Airbag warning beeps 25 times every 32 minutes, I imagine it is telling me "You will not survive" five times.

General Comments:

This has been a fun car overall; one of my favorite activities is embarrassing Mustang/Camaro/Anything-American drivers in front of their girlfriends/buddies at the stoplights.

I went to Colorado recently, and I am pleased to report this car handles mountain roads with gusto.

This car is very reliable, other than the problems reported above, which I believe were caused by the previous owner's neglect and abuse.

It is a beautiful car, with immortal styling. Wonderfully bolstered seats want to marry you, and the shifter is smooth and precise, with a gratifying 'thuck' at every change. I love revving the six at all the little CRX's while they fake it with voluminous exhaust modifications. Its Porsche-like wail just sounds so genuine, and it is! While the tuned four-bangers are still climbing out of the low-rpm doldrums, I'm walking away without a care in the world.

I must say I disagree in all points of the MX-6. I find the vehicle to be a total waste of money. I have owned one and have had nothing but trouble. The air conditioning is always going out (which that's a bad thing when you live in Florida). Also there is the total lack of power. The car though quoted to have around 170 horsepower in fact only has about 150 at the wheels. The car is a cow in the fact that it weighs too much. The acceleration stinks. Now is there anything good about the MX-6 LS? Yes, it does have a leather interior which is totally luxurious.

My sister wanted the car when I bought my Mercury Capri so I sold it to her. She likes it even though it is slow. One thing is for certain my little "4 banger" would and has blown the doors off of plenty of MX-6 LS', but then again it also blows the doors off of CRX's.
