1993 Mazda MX6 LX 2.5

Summary:

A fast, fun, and affordable car

Faults:

I haven't had any major problems with this car. The CV joints and boots were replaced, but the mechanic said that is normal.

The sunroof doesn't slide back as quickly as it used to, but it still works.

The timing belt had to be replaced at 60,000 miles.

General Comments:

This is a really great car. It is 10 years old and I still get comments on how stylish it is. The power is amazing and the car just sticks to the road. The seats form around your body so you don't move in the car at all. I love driving it.

It is a four seater, but the back seats are pretty cramped. I wouldn't recommend it to someone hauling people around or using a car seat. However it's great for small kids who can climb in on their own.

1993 Mazda MX6 LS 2.5L V6

Summary:

Affordable, fun to drive car, but too many repairs

Faults:

Front brakes would stick hard and slow down the car. Brake master cylinder replacement fixed this. $300.

Engine light went on often. Replacement of oxygen sensor fixed this, but engine light sometimes goes off when car is under heavy load in the mountains. Got ripped off by dealer ($400). Found a much better shop to do business through.

Igniter/alternator went out. $400.

Boots cracked on CV joints, replaced both front drive axles. $370.

Evaporator core for air conditioner needs replacement. Will cost over $600 to fix.

Minor electrical problem. With the alarm armed, the alarm will go off if the passenger door is unlocked with key.

Water collected in the trunk where the spare is located. Never could find where water was coming in from. Pulled the rubber plug permanently from the bottom of the trunk to fix this.

General Comments:

Car is very sleek looking. Even though it is nearly ten years old, its styling looks like it could have been made yesterday.

LS model is very nice with V6 engine, leather, alarm, and all the other amenities that came with this model.

Car is enjoyable to drive. The V6 is a little small, but performance is not bad.

Headroom is tight for a six footer.

This car has had more repairs than anticipated, but its still much cheaper than having payments.

I own a 1994 MX6 LS and I have come across some of the same problems.

1. My engine light comes on quite frequently.

2. My alarm goes off at odd times.

3. Water collected in my trunk in the spare location.

I must say though...

... our MX6's do need TLC, and if you can't afford to give it to them they stuff up and make you pay oodles of cash to keep them on the road!

At least, that's what I've found!

1993 Mazda MX6 Coupe 2.5 liter

Summary:

A beautifully designed car!

Faults:

I've had it for several months and it has ran like a dream.

General Comments:

This is a sweet car, standard transmission, 5 speed, v6, 2.5 liter. It's nearly a 10 year old car and it is still drawing lots of looks. Handles great and like to be driven!

Clean idle air control motor with throttle body cleaner and if that doesn't work buy a new idle air control motor. It could run you between 50-80 dollars. You need to buy a Haynes manual too. It will save you a lot of money.

I like this car. Maybe the engine isn't that strong like a V6 but it saves gas and still can kick some Hondas :)

I had problem with the A/C (broke hose 300$), both axles are going bad, clutch also...

I had little accident and the damage was really minor, but airbag has deployed...

A/C is working very barely even after I fixed it... with manual I can make like 33-34 miles on gallon so it's great :)

Parts aren't expensive - you can find some on ebay...

I'm glad I have this car but I'm gonna sell it soon, but I think I'm gonna miss this Mazda... I drove also the V6 one and that car has amazing sound - needs only an intake and muffler.
