1993 Mazda MX6 LS

Faults:

Other than having had the regular things replaced, ie. muffler/exhaust, brake pads, and a few wear and tear items, I have never had a single problem with this car.

I absolutely love it. It looks great and is nimble, quick and reliable - especially in the winter when it counts.

General Comments:

I would definitely buy another MX6; too bad they aren't making them any more. Unfortunately Mazda have no other cars that appeal to me.

I bought my car in April of 2001. My car now has 112,000 miles on it, but, since the time of my purchase I have had to put $2000 worth of repairs into the car. None of these repairs were of my own fault. I do not think the MX6 is a very reliable car. I wouldn't recommend buying this car to anyone who is thinking of making this purchase.

I agree with the second comment, those who love these MX-6s are either very rich and don't mind paying $800 (here and there for repairs and claim them to "wear and tear" items), or just driving these lemons on borrowed time.

Chances are, if your car hasn't failed yet or it hasn't cost much to repair it, it will happen, and when it does come back here and let us know what you really think of these cars.

I'll agree with 1 & 2... handles nicely after an alignment, even has a bit of power after a service.

Bought my first MX6 in 1999 (1997 model) while in South Africa - electric drivers seat, cruise/c, leather seats etc. What a lovely car to drive - got it at 30 000kms and sold it 80 000kms. Bought my second MX6 in New Zealand in 2004 at 78 000kms (1992 model - not quite all the extras as the first model, but a very neat car). The speedometer currently stands at 87 000kms and she goes like a dream. Both cars gave me no problems at all and I wouldn't hesitate to by a third one if it came to that.

1993 Mazda MX6 LS 2.6l

Summary:

Testament to Mazda's economic woes

Faults:

Numerous electrical problems such as int. wipers giving out at 4 yrs, engine warning light intermittent, rear defroster poor, etc. Add to that anti-sway bar breaking, clutch giving out early, rear brakes ceasing, paint peeling off all over, and 2 ball joints being replaced.

General Comments:

Mazda has shown that it just doesn't have the economic resources any more to properly engineer a car (Ford notwithstanding). I read that it took them 2 more years to iron out the bugs in this model. Moral : if you need to buy a Mazda, wait two years into the model year.

1993 Mazda MX6 LS Mystere V6 2.3

Faults:

Blown head gasket and rebuilt camshaft at 53,000 km. Replaced oxygen, air flow and throttle sensors at 55,000 km. Oxygen sensors need replacing again at 95,000 km.

Air conditioning does not appear to function properly.

General Comments:

Mazda parts are very expensive and following maintenance schedule will bankrupt you!

With no body side mouldings, the doors take a real beating.
