1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0 Liter

Summary:

It 's a great car and a great value

Faults:

Had to replace the fuel pump at 70,000 miles.

Sometimes the power sunroof sticks and won't open or close.

The hatch doesn't always release the first time the lever is pulled. I have to use my key to get in there usually.

General Comments:

This car is pretty quick considering it is just a 4 cylinder. I like that there are many upgrades you can buy for it. Anything from engine performance parts to body kits.

It gets great gas mileage. It gets over 30 mpg on the highway and 25 in the city.

The stock speakers sound great and even better with a new head unit and a subwoofer.

The handling is very good, but not as good as my Fiero GT.

The seats are comfortable, but they could be better.

The body styling is great. I love the curves and lines. I get compliments on it all the time.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0

Summary:

RS, GS= Bad, GST, GSX= Good

Faults:

Both door handles broke.

Engine started knocking at 80k.

Sunroof almost cracked if I hit a bump good enough.

Burned mad oil.

General Comments:

The door handles broke within a week of each other. dealership wanted to charge $500 to fix. I literally had to jump through the hatch to get in or leave the windows down. Very embarrassing, especially when going out.

The engine started knocking so loudly and I had to replace it with another p.o.s chrysler engine that burned more oil than Little Richie's blow dryer. I had to replace the 1st plug every 2 weeks to keep the juice. I really made a mistake getting the GS. The 4G63 would have been the better choice. I really loved to spank on some civics though.

The sunroof is annoying when you hit potholes. It feels like it is ready to crack in half. It would also get stuck sometimes and I had to give some assistance closing.

Other than these problems the car was a blast to drive! I couldn't believe the amount of attention these rides get in stock form. I am 6" and I felt like this car was built around me. Everything was within comfortable reach and I love how the shifter was perfectly positioned. I had to get an upgrade on the stereo because the stock one was bad. Plus I could not get Cd's out of the player without shifting to neutral. I added an N1 exhaust and it was lovely. It handled like a dream too. It just ate me alive when I would pull up to a gst or a gsx and knew that I didn't stand a chance. I would not recommend this card just because it is not a real import. The 4G63 is. I drove a 95 GST and fell in love. The power is significantly more than my 98. There is just something about a turbo charged car.

Amen to that, the 4G63.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS

Summary:

I love this car

Faults:

The power steering belt snapped about two months after I got the car.

The brakes are squeaky lately.

Something broke under the undercarriage, I'm not sure what it was. It was scraping against the ground for about forty miles until I was able to do anything about it. I was told it was the muffler cover.

General Comments:

Although this is my second car I have owned, it is not the second I have driven. It is the best car I have ever driven.

It seems to handle very well.

Its pretty fast and I was able to beat a dodge neon, but I lost to a Ford F-350.

Girls love looking at my car, and guys love looking under the hood explaining what to do with it.

No offense, but beating a Dodge Neon isn't saying much (I've driven one, they're slow).

For the brakes, check the brake pads/rotors. That may be your problem.

I own a 98 eclipse, it's an rs. I love it! It handles snow and weather really well. I have never had a problem with it.
