1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0

Summary:

Best car in the world

Faults:

Absolutely nothing, the car is amazingly reliable.

General Comments:

I love every thing about this car, it handles great, it has power, it looks really sporty and its pretty inexpensive, too. I love this car. This is my second eclipse and this will most likely be the only kind of car I will ever own.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder

Summary:

Looks and feels great, but you'll pay for it..

Faults:

My side mirror fell off 3 times.

My convertible top leaks, seems to be common problem.

My factory radio died at 30,000miles.

My tweeters never worked.

My power antenna stopped working at 31000 miles.

My convertible top frame broke at 38000miles.

My clutch feels sticky when cold and recently it begun to get completely stuck in certain gears.

My power window/lock control panel fell into the door.

There's a bubble in my dash board.

General Comments:

The car looks great, feels great. I've never had any trouble with the power train.

But all other little things keeps breaking. It's a pain to get a dealer to fix things under warranty.

Many things broke right after bumper to bumper warranty ran out, almost like clock work.

Don't buy this car, if you want it lease the thing for less than 3 years (length of bumper to bumper warranty.)

Check the clutch line for the problem with getting stuck in 1st gear, and cheak the break fluid.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder 2.4

Summary:

All looks with minimal power

Faults:

Roof leaks excessively when raining even though I have filled a lot of it with weatherstripping.

Rotors have warped twice now.

Door handle broke.

General Comments:

The car is beautiful to look at, but constructed very cheaply.

The 2.4 engine is highly underpowered.

Do not race anyone with this vehicle, you will lose!

If you're into performance definitely go with the turbo model.

Dude, you said not to race anybody because you will loose... you bought an automatic eclipse! what do you expect. I bought a 5spd and I've beaten civics, probes, V6 mustangs and so on. Either it's the fact you got an automatic or you just can't drive.

I agree with the last comment!! I just bought a 5 spd standard also and it has great punch. Its not a Ferrari, but you didn't pay for one either.

I recently bought a 1998 eclipse spyder. It just had a cold air intake put in, upgraded computer chip, 2 inch lowering springs, sway bar, and a sport clutch. The car is slow? I think not!

I'd agree, don't race anyone! I tried racing a 91 Civic; ouch, I got spanked!

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST turbo

Summary:

A high performance vehicle worth your $

Faults:

It was recalled about a year ago. Other than that nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

It is a quick car. Good handling and has been reliable so far. Don't really like the body style of the new ones though. Back seats could use some lighting.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0 4-cylinder

Summary:

A speedy sleeper

Faults:

Front Control Arm bushings dried out and needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

This truly is a great beginner's sports car with a dependable engine that catapults you down the highway effortlessly.

There is some doubt in its excessive body roll when traveling at high speeds around a corner.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0

Summary:

Great car if you like to sit in the shop

Faults:

Windows rattle, battery had to be replace twice, water pump, sunroof shade broke at 36200 and they would not cover it.

A/C went out at 50,000, and you have to replace brakes every 20,000 and turn the rotors.

The car has been taken to the shop 4 times for leaking anti-freeze, and they have still failed to fix it.

Other than that, it has been a great car.

General Comments:

Needs a little work on acceleration, but hey, I could have bought the turbo.

It's one of the best handling cars I have ever owned.

I love the looks that I get in this car. I am not sure if they are looking at me or the car; pretty sure it's the car.

I don't think I would buy another one, due to all the repairs.

I just got be used 98 Eclipse Spyder this past June. So far, I haven't had any problems, other than leaking when I open the door when its raining. That's not a big deal to me though. I am wondering if I should get new brakes.. I kind of get a shaking feeling when I slow down. Is this normal for eclipses or is it a sign that I need some new ones? I took my car when I first got it and the mechanic said I had about 60% left on my brakes. That just worries me that you said you had to have new ones every 20k miles!! email me please!
