1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 2.0 Non- turbo

Summary:

A great machine

Faults:

I've had no no problems with this car at all. My shifting knob is a little tough, but I replaced that with a new one any ways.

General Comments:

This is a great as a stock every day car, or with a little performance work, a great show/track car. I love this vehicle, I even named it.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 2.0 420A DOHC

Summary:

A dream!

Faults:

Really low to the ground... scrapes.

General Comments:

I absolutely think this car was one of the best cars I have ever purchased! I haven't had one problem with this car and if you put a little extra money into this model, it can be a powerful little car.

My parents recently purchased a used 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. The reason my dad bought it was because it had absolutely no miles on it, and I guess he wanted me to have something to drive (he's got strict rules for it, trust me).

At first we didn't like the the TINY wheels and tires, so we found the 16 inch five spoke wheels at a salvage yard in New York. Let me tell you, the new wheels make the RS look like a new car.

We then got the side skirts from the Mitsubishi dealer (the service there was impeccable, I might add). So we had those installed.

Then came the Euro tail lights. Oh, baby, those things look good. The center piece is crap, so we kept the original center piece. We also installed a chin spoiler to go around the front of the car. Looks real good, I recommend it, just go to MachV.com, and they can hook you up (for 180.00).

The next thing that is coming are new fenders.

All in all, this car gets the looks, and it's become a part of the family now. Sorry for boring you with my life story. Hahaha...

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0

Summary:

A great car for your money!

Faults:

My eclipse scrapes the ground everywhere that I pull it into. The first week that I had it, some 80 year old backed into the front and I had to get a whole front bottom piece of the car. That cost $500 and something dollars.

General Comments:

Overall, the car is a beauty and I love it very much! I don't like the 4th generation models though. I'll stick to my 3rd generation! My car always turns heads everywhere I go. Maybe it's the color? Barcelona red pearl. I would recommend this car to my friends!

The 95-99 are 2nd generation not 3rd. The 2000-on are the 3rd generation. You must be thinking of the slight changes they made, but it's still considered the same generation. So your car is 2nd generation.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX

Summary:

Fast, fun, and reliable

Faults:

We had a problem with the windshield glass warping a bit. We took it in and the dealer replaced it with no problems.

I went to open the door and pulled the door handle off. Apparently some of these cars just have weak handles. They replaced the handle and it's been fine.

General Comments:

The only problems have been minor and the car runs great.

The only thing I'd change is to reduce the road noise a bit.

I'd buy another one, but they changed them and got rid of the AWD and Turbo for 2000. It's a pity, but I'll have to find a different car when I'm done with this one.

Love my 1998, but both door handles broke off within 1 week of each other. Crazy... because I am not that strong. I called Mitsubishi customer care and they would not cover. I am sure there is a defect. I see this problem being reported all over the internet reviews. Dealership said it was $55 for the door handles and $200 to install. Annoying...
