1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 2.0 DOHC

Summary:

Overall great car for price

Faults:

Rotors where warped when purchased and the tires where bald and cracked due to sitting for about a year.

It has not started for me two times since I bought it the last time I only turned it off for about 10 minutes the battery is good, but when I put jumper cables on it started right up.

General Comments:

I really like this car I was very happy to get this for under $5k I was going to get a gs-t, but this one had such low mileage I couldn't pass it up.

Nice looking car only things that isn't stock is a aftermarket alarm system and remote control start

The person I bought it from really neglected it so I have been cleaning it up the last few weeks, but now I am to the point where I would like to put a little money into it definitely has the potential any advise would be appreciated.

I think I'm going to start with a AEM cold air intake.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0 Liter non-turbo

Summary:

A blast to drive

Faults:

I bought my car from a private seller, a woman wanted to get rid of it because she had gotten a new car and was in debt. When I got it however, the window tinting was badly wrinkled, I had to roll the driver and passenger's windows down to see, so I just stripped the tinting from the sides.

Shortly after getting the car, my door handle on the driver's side snapped off; that was rather expensive. I had to get spark plugs, etc. replaced due to a company recall.

The plastic around my hatchback has also started to hang down. My trunk has a hard time opening for some reason, I think it gets hung. My headlights went out once and my key sticks in my ignition sometimes.

General Comments:

I love my little Eclipse, it handles great for the most part, it corners really well. I live in W. Va. around tons of curvy roads, and my Eclipse GS handles like a dream around the mountainous terrain.

It could use a little more pep; sometimes it has problems going up steep hills.

The appearance is phenomenal. I still get comments on how cute my car is constantly. I love my power sliding sunroof. I had to replace the factory stereo and put in my own Pioneer stereo though.

This is my first car, even though I was 20 when I got it, I didn't get a car right after I got my license; my parents wanted me to know how to drive well before they got me a car, so I was in college for 2 years before I finally got my little Eclipse.

I'm the third owner of this car, but it has held up extremely well, still just over 50,000. It's a great vehicle, I'll be sad when the time comes to trade it in.

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 2.0L DOHC

Summary:

Not a Bad Base to work off of

Faults:

Head Gasket leak at 65k Miles, due to high revs and previous owner.

Passenger Side Door slightly off-balanced, causing the door to seal incorrectly.

General Comments:

This car is a lot of fun to drive, but the RS and GS are highly underpowered at only 140HP. For the money, a turbo'd GST or GSX is worth it, but the high stress on the DSM's cause them to break sooner. There could be better seats, no side bolstering at all.

If willing to put money into the car, it can become very "quick" for a 4 cylinder, but it isn't going to be running against V8's soon. The 420A (stock motor) is easily turbo'd though, and can run mid- 200 HP without internal work. The car's suspension could use a little tightening, it has a 5 inch ground clearance stock. It is a nice ride though.
