2005 Nissan X-Trail SE 2.5L

Summary:

Good looking and reliable family vehicle

Faults:

Little plastic rivet that holds the rubber seal on the rear door fell out (dealer replaced).

Driver's side front window made a squealing sound when going up or down (dealer fixed).

Front brake rotors warped after being machined by the dealer (bought high quality rotors and replaced them myself).

General Comments:

Very versatile SUV with a strong engine and a very smooth shifting transmission. The AWD system is awesome.

Lots of storage and cargo space. We go camping with 2 kids, a dog, and pull a utility trailer behind it with comfort.

We have had it 5 years, and it has been generally problem free.

The plastics in the interior mark very easily. I would recommend the leather interior if you have children.

2005 Nissan X-Trail

Summary:

Reliable and fun to drive

Faults:

Nothing!

General Comments:

I have owned 4 vehicles in my life (a 1989 Toyota Corolla, a 2000 Honda Accord, a 1998 RAV and the 2005 Trail) - the X-Trail trumps them all!

It gets great gas mileage, and handles the challenging Canadian road conditions with ease. I work out in the country, and have some pretty muddy or snowy roads to contend with.

My only small complaint is that the seats are a little stiff. I'm used to it now, but for long trips, I've had a passenger complaint or two.

2005 Nissan X-Trail LE 2.5 gas

Summary:

A dependable and fun vehicle to own

Faults:

The heater motor squealed whenever the temperature fell below 3 degrees Celsius, and was replaced at 120,000 km.

Left rear wheel bearing had to be replaced at 117,000 km.

Right front rotor warped and was replaced at 110,000 km.

General Comments:

The X-Trail is a very stable car to drive, on or off road.

The LE model is feature rich and very comfortable.

The center mounted gauges took some getting used to, but now I prefer them to those mounted behind the steering wheel.

The 165 hp engine has plenty of pep for merging on highways, and will cruise comfortably all day at 110 km/h.

Fuel consumption averages 9.5 liters/100 km in warm weather, but increases to 10.5 or more when the temperature dips below zero and using snow tires.

2005 Nissan X-Trail Gas 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great SUV with multi purpose use

Faults:

Only have had 1 problem with the car, and it is a very minor problem.

The check engine light will come on when it idles for a long time in very cold temps. Example -15C to -30C. The problem when I coded it was an idle spike, but apparently it is a minor issue in other Nissans. Since last winter it hasn't come on, and when I watched for the light to come on, the idle barely even moved.

General Comments:

Great small-mid SUV that is good on gas because of the smaller engine size.

Towed our 1600lbs tent trailer all summer with ease!!

Heated seats work wonders in winter.

Drive a lot of long distances with comfort, and have never had any issues with high speed driving, the cruise control or any of the steering/bearings.

Haven't had any engine or transmission hiccups at all.

This is our first Nissan, and we are very happy with it.

This is an update on this review:

Have done a lot of highway driving and towing with our tent trailer and still no major problems.

We are at about 137km's and it still runs like when we bought it.

That original problem with the idle was that it needed new spark plugs (AKA regular maintenance).

2005 Nissan X-Trail LE 2.5L gas

Faults:

I bought it brand new in November 2004, and only drove 65,000 km.

Had the engine leaking oil, and more than that, I cannot start my car today. Will tow it to the dealer tomorrow. Last time I went to the dealer to check engine leaking, they said it's OK, but when I came back, I found it kept leaking. Don't know why?

General Comments:

If you are lucky, it's OK.
