1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0

Summary:

Great car overall, cheap to maintain and cheap to buy... great gas economy

Faults:

Power Steering pump failed just after I bought it, but I knew it was going to fail as it was making serious noises when I test drove it. Cost $600 for new pump.

Fuel lines began leaking 2 months after I bought it, a clamp holding the lines in place had collected moisture and rusted. Cost $150 to replace the lines.

Radio's don't work. It has that awful standard one, but it doesn't work, and an after market one that was previously fitted doesn't work either. Can't be bothered having them checked.

Shifts into 3rd gear too early if accelerating at low revs.

Transmission 'locks' for 5 minutes after it's been started in cold weather. The shifter will not move until the engine has been running at least 5 minutes.

General Comments:

Handles like a dream in the snow, takes a lot to make the car lose it's 'line' in snow/ice. Haven't tested the ABS yet though.

Fuel economy is great! 600kms per tank in the city and 800 per tank on the highway.

Great acceleration in 2nd gear, for passing drop speed to 60kms per hour then floor the pedal...it's like a rocket.

Not keen on the 'dash' mounted wiper controls, takes too much to fiddle with.

1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 3.1-Liter V6

Summary:

Runs awesome with good mileage

Faults:

The window sealer is cracking.

The glass fogs up easy.

The front speakers are starting to lose their quality.

The frame is starting rust around the door areas.

Paint is wearing down on plastic car body parts.

General Comments:

This car can really take off from the start. Easy to take care of, besides the cosmetics on the body.

1994 Pontiac Sunbird SE 3.1

Summary:

Best car I ever had, wouldn't trade it for the world!

Faults:

Replaced first engine at 160,000 miles. Replaced first transmission at 210,000 miles. wheels bearings at 200,00 miles, radiator at 100,000 and 200,000 miles. C.V. axle replaced at 110,000 miles. other than that, just normal wear and tear.

General Comments:

I run this car like it was a race car. It has had a very hard life. In races, I have beaten Mustang GTs, Camaro Z-28s, and all kinds of rice burners. I get rubber in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears on a regular basis. It handles better than a Corvette in the neighborhood and accelerates from 0 - 60 just as well.

I just started modifying the engine and it screams. I have added high performance coil packs, K & N air filter, iridium spark plugs, 2 spiral maxes, ported and polished intake manifold and plenum. From 0 - 60 I'm running about 4.2!

I am a small person. I find the cabin cozy and extremely convenient. Everything is in reach.

I love this car! I wish I could find another one. It is safe, reliable. This is something I would trust my child in. As far as wet roads, I couldn't imagine finding a safer car. This car has saved my life more than once.

I too have a Pontiac Sunbird, 3.1-liter V6, 90,000 miles and it runs beautifully. It does everything you say it does, but the one bad thing is that the window seal is starting to crack, but other than that it loves to rip up the road.

I am looking for photos of a Pontiac teal Sunbird convertible. I have 1994 white Sunbird convertible with white leather seats.

I'd like to to paint it Teal with sunspot metalic flecs. This car has a hipster feel to it. I think the design of the Firebird is inferior to the design of a Sunbird. Once, if you bought a used Sunbird you had your Ged. Now, the Sunbird exhibits the cool affect of a master's thesis on wheels.

I hope to hear from you. Living in The Age of The Almighty Sunbird.

Peace to love,

Justin.
