1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0L OHC

Summary:

A very reliable car... more so than many newer cars, in my opinion

Faults:

The only things that have really gone wrong with this car are general maintenance things. For instance, I needed to replace the heater core (there was a leak when I bought it, but the replacement was only $200CDN - labour included), and I needed a new water pump and timing belt (The car still had the originals).

I also needed a new sway bar link, and there is a hole in the back wheel well that goes into my trunk, but I've fixed all that, and very cheaply (only spent about $140 altogether for it).

Also my ignition control module died on me one day, but it was about $100 to replace. These all occured in the first 2 months of me owning the car, and since then I've had no problems (knock on wood).

General Comments:

The car is extremely reliable and puts up with my driving. I take care of my cars, but I accelerate and shift hard, and the car keeps up, and more importantly, so does the clutch.

The seats are very comfortable (bucket seats) and the layout of the interior is rather eye-pleasing.

The car accelerates very quickly.

1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE 4.0

Summary:

A Great First Car!

Faults:

Nothing, but, I needed tires and the wire is lose on the break light so it comes on from time to time.

General Comments:

I love the car this is my first car and it runs very good it's a very good first car and sports car. All cars are not good sometimes you might get a lemon, but, the best advice is take a person with you who knows a lot about cars that would be your best bet!

1994 Pontiac Sunbird

Summary:

I will never own another one

Faults:

First off I would like to say that I bought my car from a least than honest salesman.

When I bought this car I should have taken it and had a second safety done on it as the parking brake light would not go off. That was my second Mistake.

The day after I bought it I went to unlock the car and pulled out the drivers side lock with the key in it.

A week after I bought this car, the starter went and left me stranded far from home.

A month after I bought it the muffler fell off.

$600 later for the muffler and starter (I never did replace the lock as it would be around $2,000), the car seemed to be running fine and it drove pretty good for about 6 months.

I have always done very regular maintenance on this car, never letting it go more than 4000km without an oil change and taking it for a once over every 6 months.

At 187,000km, I had to replace all the belts in the car.

Shortly after that my alternator went. It had to be replaced. There is another $500.

A month later at about 189,000km. It was making a weird noise so I brought it in to see what was wrong. I found out that my sway bar linkage had broke, the CV boot on the front passenger side broke, Both wheel bearings in the front were gone, and that every part of my brakes on all 4 tires were rotten. Price tag on this? $2000.

General Comments:

The mechanic that I was seeing never mentioned the brake problems to me when I took it in for regular maintenance. So I am partly at fault for the brakes. But I was also told when I bought this car that the brakes were all brand new.

The car was $3500 when I bought it. I still owe a lot of money on it. With this most recent news I got on my car, I am getting rid of it as I can't afford to keep fixing it.

I had a 93 sun-bird before this and had relatively no problems until the timing belt let go and the whole exhaust fell off while driving. I figured that I might be OK with a newer model and buying one from a dealer as my first one was a private sale.

The car wasn't that bad when it was running properly. But was far to expensive to fix for even simple parts. I wouldn't recommend this car if you are looking at a budget. But if you have money to spare and time to spare, it isn't a bad car.

Look at the mileage on this car. Obviously you didn't check it very well when you purchased it. The mileage alone shoukd have been an indication of things. Don't blame the car. Also, don't get swindled by dealers the next time!
