The car is a little under powered, however I have been getting 30mpg.

2000 Suzuki Vitara JX 2.0 gas

Summary:

Great car for the money!

Faults:

Brakes at 65000 miles.

Door hinge bent (from wind blowing door open).

General Comments:

This car has been one of the finest I have ever owned. It has been steadfastly reliable and is as pleasurable to drive now as when I bought it in 2002.

While not a BMW, Benz or even a Toyota, it performs admirably for a car of its price range.

Reasonable power for the highway, considering its only a 4-cylinder.

Tight steering with excellent road feel.

Good A/C and heat.

Excellent factory stereo.

Four-wheel drive is not the best I have ever encountered, but it does its job.

Oh, did I mention reliability? No major repairs for a car now 8 years old approaching 100k miles. I guess that speaks for itself!

2003 Suzuki Vitara JX 2.0

Summary:

Decent SUV, but could be a little better

Faults:

1) Transmission shifts rough at times.

2) Driver side power window makes strange noises.

3) A possible leak near the passenger side floor board.

4) Turn signal is stiff.

5) Window trim is coming off rear passenger door.

6) Front driver side seat starting to wear.

7) Rides like a horse and carriage.

8) Plastic interior scratches easy.

9) Four cylinder weak and consumes more gas than expected.

10) Cruise control is crazy, causing the transmission to shift constantly.

General Comments:

This is a decent little SUV. I think for the price I got a good deal. It has a few quirks that I listed above, but all of that is common stuff that happens to every car sooner or later. I love the style of it to me it looks really sporty.

One major issue I have with this vehicle is the four cylinder engine is way too weak for a SUV of this size. I mean traffic zooms by me, and I know there is no use to try and press the gas, because all it's going to do is rev up and make lots of noise with no progress, and the power button isn't much help unless you are flooring the thing, which I try not to do.

I wish I had went with the six cylinder model instead. I did drive a Honda CRV and a Kia Sportage, and they were also weak and underpowered, so maybe it comes with the territory.

I believe that it uses too much gas to have such a small engine; it seems every time I fill it up, before I know it, it's time to do so again, and I haven't really gone anywhere.

2004 Suzuki Vitara LX 2.6

Summary:

Great little do anything SUV

Faults:

Window was cracked from a rock, and spread fast.

Weather strip around passenger door is coming off.

General Comments:

This car has been perfect. I take it off-road almost every weekend. mine is stock, and it will go just about anywhere. now I wouldn't go rock crawling with it, but for some good old digging, dirt roads, etc it is great. I have had this thing on 2 wheels, every combination of 2 wheels. it gets about 22mpg in town, not great for a 2.6 v6 but good enough. the back seat is smaller than I would like.. but it works. I trust this car to take me anywhere common sense would allow, and even some places it wouldn't. my biggest complaint is freeway speeds are hard to maintain. past 65 and you have to punch it to keep up your speeds on any sized hill, though it will make it up without losing much speed, just a lot of gas. I am 6' and fit in this car just fine, given its small size this is nice.

Very well written and useful, considering a Vitara, thanks for the insight!!!

You are right on.. I would have written the exact same review. A car seat is a VERY tight fit in the back seat, and it could use a 3.2 V6 instead of the 2.6... I would hate to see the 4 they put in some.
