2001 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.8 8v

Summary:

A smart, low-cost thunderbolt

Faults:

The car has performed perfectly for the first twenty thousand. mechanically, I have no complaints, thogh the seat material has become slightly frayed.

General Comments:

This is a great car for those who like a bit of power when they need it. the car is very quick for the engine size and eats corners in the hot summer months. if you fancy the odd bit of thrashing, this is the fun, low-cost motor for you.

2001 Citroen Saxo FN51 XPT 1.4i

Summary:

Virtually a VTR for more than a grand cheaper. It makes sense

Faults:

Got broken into; lack of alarm at the time; TOAD alarm now fitted.

No problems so far.

General Comments:

For the money this car is second to none.

If you want 95% of the goodies the VTR has got for well over a grand cheaper plus cheaper running costs, this is the car for you.

Most VTR owners will tell you its nowhere near as good, well, you only need to look at the STATS on the Citroen web page to find out theres not much in it at all.

And yes I've driven all 3. So don't even go there...

The VTR will do 0-60 in 9.4 seconds and the furio in 11.2, which is only 1.8 seconds at the end of the day!!! Plus it comes with actually a BETTER looking interior which doesn't look like someones spilt a tin of paint all over the seats!

Message to VTR drivers: The furio with VTR alloys and lowered 40mm like mine looks every bit as good if not better (when you take a closer look inside), which is why I bought the car, for the LOOKS, if you're going to go on about speed and performance shouldn't you be driving a VTS??? (!)

If I wanted to go for speed the VTR wouldn't be very high up on my shopping list.

But then again who got the best value for money? I rest my case.

The Furio is better matched to the VTR than the VTR is to the 16 valver VTS so why bother with the VTR when you can get a furio.

Don't waste your money, spend the extra cash you'll save on some fancy wheels and lowered suspension to close that gap and it'll look better than a standard VTR anyway.

You know you want to.

In your dreams. I drove both the Furio and the VTR. OK, up to 60 there's only a couple of seconds in it, after that the VTR would blow the Furio away. Anyway, the 1.1 is nearer to the Furios performance than the Furio is to the VTR, hee hee - you sucker!

2001 Citroen Saxo 1.6vts 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Buy anything but this I beg you

Faults:

Too much to list.

General Comments:

The handling is terrible especially in the wet.

The trim is dark, hard and cheap looking plastics.

Too many sad wide boys drive them.

Cannot out perform a Volkswagen Lupo TDi across country in fact it over took me at over 100mph!

The paint has now lost its lustre.

The lights are so poor that I need to drive every where with the fog lights on this annoys other drivers.

The interior is too cramped for human habitation.

Fuel economy is appalling.

Do the french only have one foot each because the pedal assembly a joke.

At least it was cheap, but why did I sell the Skoda?

I fully agree.

I totally disagree, let the differential do the work around corners that's what it there for.

Do you expect the interior to be leather for a 6.000 car? I don't.

Of course a TDi will beat you, it's a diesel they have a lot more torque.

It's a Saxo!!! did you expect the interior space of a limo??

And as for fuel economy its only as bad as you drive it.
