1994 Citroen Xantia SX 1.9 turbo diesel

Summary:

Look after it and it will look after you

Faults:

Handbrake cable snapped.

Head gasket leaked oil at 155k miles.

ABS sensor failed.

Clutch cable snapped.

Dashboard lights just gone out.

General Comments:

Totally reliable and has only let me down with the clutch cable incident.

Comfy car and reliable if you observe the service intervals and have a trustworthy garage to hand.

My car is now officially worth £13.00, yet it takes me 500 miles a week without fail and returns 50 mpg.

Just because they have done a few miles doesn't mean they are worn out nails!

General Comments:

Bought this car despite it's faults for comfort and economical running. I am not disappointed.

Not a boy racer type, but fulfills a family lifestyle with comfort, economy and space.

1994 Citroen Xantia LX 1.8i

Summary:

A good bargain, reliable and overall a good runner

Faults:

Front wheel bearings wore out very quickly.

Tracking was slightly out of alignment.

Front tires wore faster than expected.

Hydraulic pump failed while traveling at 40mph and turning on a roundabout.

General Comments:

The car is wonderful to drive, comfortable, but a little noisy on some road surfaces.

I find the drive position a little low, despite being 6 foot tall and my wife can barely see over the steering wheel.

The front pillars seriously obstruct your view at junctions and the rear view mirror makes half the windscreen disappear from view.

1994 Citroen Xantia SX 1.9 turbo diesel

Summary:

Economical comfort

Faults:

Clutch cable clip went whilst driving the car home on the first day - cost £60 to replace.

Rear height corrector seized. £180 replacement.

General Comments:

Despite the two issues I'm very pleased with the car. Very comfortable, very good amount of kit, looks nice, very economical (49mpg - costs the same to run as my 1.3 Felicia!) etc.

I'm very attached the car already :)

The fact that most people shy away from Citroen's means the car was very cheap to buy.

A practical well equipped car which has proved more reliable than my previous BX Turbo Diesel. Excellent on motorway city driving spoilt by notchy gearchange and lack of power below 2000rpm.

Summary:

A bargain for under 3,000ukp

Faults:

Remote central locking no longer works.

Clutch replaced at 57,000 miles.

New brake discs at 59,000 miles.

General Comments:

The car is a bargain second hand and is well designed inside and out.

The cabin is comfortable and is better than the cabin of my Nissan Micra.

The car has high miles per gallon and is as good on fuel consumption as my Nissan Micra.

However the electrics can be erratic at times.

Since Writing this the car has done 63,000 miles. It has needed new brake discs and a new exhaust as well as a full service.

1994 Citroen Xantia VSX 2.0 petrol

Summary:

A comfortable car let down by appalling reliability problems

Faults:

Gear lever failed at 800 miles.

Electric window jammed at 1600 miles.

Power steering hydraulics failed at 2000 miles.

Ignition keypad fault at 3000 miles.

Numerous rattles after 3000 miles.

Headlamp condensation at 7000 miles.

Clutch creep after 7000 miles.

Central locking intermittent fault after 11000 miles.

Sunroof leak at 16000 miles.

Sunroof motor failed at 19000 miles.

Numerous electrical faults.

General Comments:

Pleasant styling, excellent comfort and the promise of reasonable running costs suggested that this car should be a good choice.

Sadly, a string of fault, some quite serious, and many of which left me stranded, added up to a nightmare of a car!

The local Citroen dealer, whilst well meaning, was unable to fix many of the faults without several visits, and often was unable to supply a courtesy car.

This really was not what anyone would expect from owning a new car.

I find this account very difficult to believe.

I can believe most of it... at high mileage, but not this low.
