2001 Peugeot 206 cc SE 2.0

Summary:

Works well as an ordinary 206!!!

Faults:

One week after purchasing the car, the roof opened halfway and stopped. In one year the car has been back at the dealers on no fewer than 9 occasions, all with the same problem, the roof!

General Comments:

The convertible part of the car is very unreliable.

2001 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0

Summary:

A great little car for the money

Faults:

There was no coolant in the air conditioning system when I collected it, which the dealer had failed to notice.

The driver's seat jams occasionally, i.e. it refuses to slide backwards and forwards. Fortunately my boyfriend and I have the same length legs so it's not too much of a problem.

General Comments:

Fun to drive, but you do have to really drive it and not just be passive to get the most out of it. I thought the handling would be a bit sharper round corners, but I accept this is a 206 and not an Elise. Acceleration is good and makes overtaking safer than in a slower car. (NB I am NOT a Girl Racer though!)

At the risk of sounding like I should have bought a saloon, the boot is a little small, but the split/fold rear seats help. I am currently expecting a baby and expect that this will become more of a problem once I have wrestled the pram in and out a few times.

The bodywork dents very easily. I have experienced three knocks in car parks so far, which have resulted in getting a front wing bent back to shape and re-sprayed and two small dents in the passenger door and rear wing, which I'm not sure what to do about.

Dealer has been OK so far; their only real mistake was failing to notice the lack of coolant in the air conditioning. Obviously the delivery inspection wasn't too thorough.

Insurance can be variable in cost - shop around thoroughly before comitting.

My 206 GTi also had no coolant in the air-conditioning when I picked it up from the dealer - turned out to be a leak in the condenser. Is this a common problem??

The coolant is not the only problem with this abysmal car, I really do not have the time or the inclination to waste any further time on the wretched little car.

Air-con in my 2000 206GTi (done about 60,000 km's) stopped working a little while ago - the Peugeot garage I took it to at the last service told me it was a coolant leak (don't know where from). They re-filled it with some kind of coolant that colours the area it leaks from (if it leaks) so they can easily identify the leak.

By the way, I had it serviced by City Peugeot in Melbourne Australia, and in case anyone is interested to know, I found them to be VERY good.

2001 Peugeot 206 copue cabriolet 1.6

Summary:

A very poor new design, but the later models are a lot better

Faults:

Roof has leaked from new. Roof has stuck with boot in upright position twice. Roof has refused to open more than half way over 8 times. Front seat stuck twice. ABS light stays on. CD player has been changed. Roof seals changed twice. Drivers electric window stuck.

General Comments:

The car when it works is wonderful, but it has been in the garage over 14 times in ten months, so cannot feel to confidant with it.

2001 Peugeot 206 GLX 1.4

Summary:

Nice car - wish it was german..!

Faults:

This is a copy of the letter that I wrote to the dealer, and Peugeot UK; it sums up most of the problems I have had.

1. Fusebox cover – The fusebox cover has come loose, and upon inspection, I have found that the retaining clips are broken, thus it rattles whilst driving. I would be very grateful if this could be fixed, and that it is secured back in position properly.

2. Loss of power – the engine feels very ‘limp’, and over the last few weeks I have noticed that it is gradually losing more, and more power. It feels nothing like the car I bought, and needs heavy use of the accelerator to get the car moving at speed. It feels a lot slower than other 206 1.4’s I have driven, and even without over-revving the engine, it feels very rough, and harsh. The engine seems to vibrate a lot, and it is possible to feel this through both the pedals and the gearstick.

3. Brakes – The brakes feel very loose, and again, need a hard push on them to get them to work, they are not as tight and precise as they used to be; obviously this could be due to wear and tear on the pads, but I hardly think that it could be this after only 2000 miles.

4. Suspension – The suspension has seem to become very stiff, and at any speed the car seems to bounce along the road, even on perfectly smooth surfaces, which it used to cope with very well, it now seems to bounce around on, and really ‘kicks’ passengers around, and the back seems to kick around a lot more than the front. The suspension has become so bad now, that it really affects my driving, and all my passengers notice the very harsh ride.

5. Engine – The engine seems to be running very rough. It sometimes stalls whilst on the move, especially when slowing down - which can be very nerve-racking, especially, if I am travelling at speed. Also it will often surge spontaneously, i.e. the rpm will increase by approx 1000 even though I have not increased the pressure applied to the accelerator, this is very disconcerting. Often the engine will surge spontaneously, and then stall.

6. Missing third seatbelt-receptacle in rear – Upon inspection, I cannot seem to find a third seatbelt receptacle in the rear seats. Perhaps it is tucked away under the seat; I am not quite sure.

7. Rattling from door panels – When playing music at moderate, not loud, levels, a severe rattling sound comes from the door cards, this is very pronounced at speed. It may be due to the speakers themselves, but I am not too sure.

8. Hesitancy upon starting – Sometimes, whether hot or cold, the engine is a little hesitant to start, and seems to ‘cough’, and ‘splutter’ upon starting.

General Comments:

Good car - good design features, but has too many faults to make it a pleasure to own. Check your VERY carefully upon delivery/purchase !

I think you need to read the Passat and Golf reviews; I think you meant Japanese not German.
