2001 Peugeot 206 LX 1.4 petrol

Summary:

A bit expensive for what it is

Faults:

The car was first purchased in August this year, so it's about 3 months old.

Well, the first fault already is that it has got an electrical fault where all brake lights stay on at all times.

Second fault is that when starting the engine from cold it makes an awful noise, but goes quiet when the engine is warmed up.

General Comments:

Apart from the faults, the car is OK and I don't think I will go back to Peugeot for another new car.

The car is economical.

I think the car could be a little more roomy than it is.

2001 Peugeot 206 DTurbo 2.0 HDi turbo diesel

Summary:

Thrifty but quick

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

The HDi engine performs very well - it's quiet, economic and torquey. It is the first diesel I have driven that doesn't require the glow plugs to be warmed.

The car handled reasonably well with 5 passengers and lots of luggage, although it wasn't particularly comfortable for those in the back!

The DTurbo is VERY well specified for the price. The fact that it looks like an XSi or even GTi is fantastic, especially as it does around 65mpg.

I had to wait a while for the latest revision, but this one has new designed alloys (gorgeous!) and a slightly quicker engine.

Just an update to my original review!

I have now done 6000 miles and the car has developed a VERY annoying rattle in the sunroof - its been back to the dealer once already and is scheduled in again for tomorrow. The passenger seat also got stuck in the forward position which also meant a trip to the dealer.

Engine runs EVEN better now that it has some miles on it! MPG has increased but power remains.

The bodywork and engine of this car are great but the build and dealer quality mar what could be a superb car.

2001 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0

Summary:

Excellent motor vehicle for the money

Faults:

Air conditioning unit was not working when I picked up the car. The fault lay in a blown fuse.

General Comments:

The car has a lively engine, very responsive above 3,000 revs.

The handling is superb and road noise is minimal.

The driver's position is a little awkward, but if like me you are under 6 foot tall and have less than a size 10 shoe you will find it possible to get a good compromise. Taller, bigger drivers may struggle a little.

The manufacturer's in car entertainment is un-exciting and weak. Change it as soon as you can.

The above reviewer must not have driven the car much, given the mileage posted. I drove the GTi 180 (206 RC) for a day, and road, wind and engine noise is unbearable at 120 kph, even for a sports car. The 206 CC actually seemed quieter, even with the roof down.

2001 Peugeot 206 XSi 1.6 16v

Summary:

Great powerful(ish) city car

Faults:

Nothing.

Scratches on paintwork found on delivery, rectified.

Dealer was courteous and offered a courtesy car.

General Comments:

Want to get a sunroof, but don't know what's best.

Slightly noisy at 90mph.

Too much suspension bump and thump. But good ride for the size of the car.

2001 Peugeot 206 DTurbo 2.0 HDi

Summary:

A well specified small hatch with a big car feel

Faults:

So far, nothing, - although occasionally the passenger side front seat seizes.

Have read reviews on this site from some dissatisfied owners. Can only hope if you're lucky enough to get one that's well built, it should last - fingers crossed!

General Comments:

I have been delighted so far. The car has run in well, has smooth power delivery, and excellent mid-range acceleration. May need tracking checking as it pulls to the left very slightly at motorway speeds.

My own experiences with the dealers have been OK (Oxford + Liverpool), although I do appreciate they can vary as so many are totally independent.

2001 Peugeot 206 Style 1.1 petrol

Summary:

Sporty supermini with good looks and excellent safety features

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

Dealer was not very good owing to having to return the car to have badges fitted to the mud flaps which I had paid for, also they tyre painted the wheels which got splashed up onto the paint work.

When I collected the car there was no owners manual owing to a hold up in printing, this happens every year.

2001 Peugeot 206 LX 1.4

Summary:

Great looks, style, and performance

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

An excellent looker, with great performance.

Got it in Crystal Green, as everyone else seems to get that silver colour.

Excellent service from the dealership, they even lent us a car free of charge for a weekend so my missus could get to an important interview, and we had no car until it was built.
