2001 Alfa Romeo 147 Lusso Selespeed from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A fantastic car spoilt by electrical problems and poor dealer back-up"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Repeated alarm false alarms with siren sounding non-stop for up to 20 minutes.

VDC, ABS and Selespeed failure warnings.

Selespeed clutch engagement malfunction.

Radio station presets self reset.

Repeated CD Error messages.

Trip computer self resets.

Windscreen wiper/washer malfunction.

Only the latter fault has been rectified by the dealer, the others remain and the car has so far been off the road for over 4 weeks in the last 48.

General comments?

Handling is excellent.

Styling is stunning inside and out.

Build quality is good.

Equipment level is excellent.

Bose sound system is stunning.

Dealer service is lacking.

Electrical problems are becoming too much for me to consider continuing ownership.

Gave up on Alfa after many years of ownership and love. Selespeed was the last straw. A dangerous system. Dealers are totally unprofessional and Alfa UK are in a perpetual state of denial.

Not really a car for professional people who expect reliability and a good service from the cars and the dealers.

I am driving a BMW Z4 now.

I've a selespeed 147 and like many others I presume share these same minor, but very niggly faults!!! Is there any easy fix to sort the on board diagnostics out??? It is a beautiful car, but the constant messages drive one barmy (actually I've set the diagnostic to spanish language, I need to practice therefore I get plenty practice!!!)
