2000 Audi S4 2.7 Twin turbo from North America

Summary:

Great buy, but mods require more money and knowledge than your typical car

Faults:

The torque converter had to be replaced at 72,000 along with misc seals.

Headlamp glass was cracked and replaced by dealer.

General Comments:

This car comes with 250hp stock. That's not a ton these days, but in 2000 it was one of the fastest sedans on the planet, and still today it packs a punch. The twin turbo V6 is wonderful. Stock is had plenty of power for the everyday driver and mods are available.

AWD handling is the best.

The interior surrounds you and is very comfortable.

2000 Audi S4 from North America

Summary:

It's a nice luxury car, but don't buy it if you're looking for a serious sports car

Faults:

Radio changed stations when the car was turned off at 40k miles - needed to be replaced.

LED display in dash was missing lines at 45k miles - needed to be replaced.

Clunking noise in front at 50k miles - needed new tie rod ends.

Pulsing in brake pedal at 55k miles - needed new front rotors.

All of my repairs were covered by Audi's Certified Used Car warranty and because of the number of problems, I sold my car before the warranty expired.

General Comments:

The power was impressive and fun.

The handling was disappointing, the suspension is more luxury than sport.

The interior is extremely comfortable and quiet.

There was a bit of a lag when you floor it; aka. turbo lag.

If you have all-season or winter tires, this car handles awesome in the snow.

I think you are the problem, concerning the handling. It's more the way you use it, because its handling is just superb.

Having owned a B5 S4 and a variety of "serious" sports cars (several 944 Turbos, 996, Miata, Mini S), I totally agree with the original reviewer that the B5 S4 does not possess "serious" sports car handling characteristics. It is heavy and has a poor weight distribution that creates an inherent understeer condition that is hard to correct. It might feel like a great handling car to some, but if you are the type that pushes cars around, uses the throttle to steer, and applies other advanced car control, the S4 will not satisfy you completely. Still a very good car, however.

2000 Audi S4 Avant 2.7 Bi turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A classy high performance estate

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

This is a great car, it has everything I want from a car.

It is extremely quick, comfortable, quiet, roomy and classy.

The build quality and finish is superb with no squeaky or rattles.

The gadgets are endless.

It is very much a wolf in sheep's clothing.

But best of all it is serious fun to drive... I love it.
