"Expensive but well worth it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Water pump went at 120,000.

General comments?

I love this car it can get 0-60 in 8 seconds and can do a 1/4 mile in 13.4 seconds It's got 300 h.p. baby!!

I'm thinking of purchasing a '97 d'Elegance. Could you give me some preventative maintenence tips, some occasional glitches and some replacement/maintenence costs? That would be a huge help. Thank you.

The De Ville Concours has the 300 HP variant, while the others have 275. No way a car this heavy will run 13.4 seconds in the quarter mile, but it certainly is a strong runner. I'd guess 15.4 seconds at the quickest. My Concours, a 1997, had 32,000 1-owner miles when I bought it in 2002. Other than oil leakage from the typical Northstar crappy seals it has been a flawless performer. Once I accidentally shut off the traction control system while driving. The engine and entire electrical system shut down! It immediately restarted after coasting to a stop in the middle of the road. Not good. Still, you 'gotta love a car this big when roominess is what you want. I sure do. BTW: My other car is a Kawasaki ZZR1200 motorcycle

I have a 1995 Cadillac Deville, with the Northstar engine and noted someone else has already talked about the lousy seals, but yesterday I had something quite disturbing happen. While driving, my digital display showed that there was no charge in the battery, and sure enough it went dead on a busy road in Owl's Head, Maine. I almost had an accident trying to steer the car out of the way of traffic. It now sits at a Cadillac dealership in a nearby town. Does anyone have a clue as to what the problem might be? Someone suggested to me that it might be the alternator, but I had that replaced about two years ago. I suspect some kind of devious electrical problem. Any insights?

The guy with the 95 with a dead battery. Check the positive battery cable. I have a 97 deville and it just quit running and would not restart. Our local Caddy dealer did a diagnostic on the car and it was a really bad corroded battery cable. The only problem was this simple solution cost $450.00 to replace. Good luck.

I had a similar problem with my 1997 Cadillac De ville. The car acted like the starter was bad. After fiddling around about an hour, I got the positive cable to move maybe an eighth of an inch and car started right up and 1000 miles later no more problems. The last time this happened, I had the car towed to a repair facility and they replaced the starter for $350. I have a hunch the starter was fine, I guess the mechanic needed Vegas money, oh well.

I have a couple of questions about my 1997 Cadillac Deville. It has about 104000 miles on it now. I have been concerned about my gas gauge fluctuating from full to all the way down to 7 gallons then back up again. It mainly does this when I am below half a tank. It just does not give me an accurate reading. The second question is has anyone had any problems with the "traction engaged" coming on when you take off from a dead stop along with a sort of grinding or mechanical noise from the front end. This too has been happening to me, but intermittently. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a 1997 Cadillac De Ville with under 60,000 miles on it. The car was previously owned by an elderly couple who drove it very little, in fact, when I purchased the car, it had been on just 2 road trips. The problem is, I never know how much gas is in the tank because of the fluctuations of the gas guage. When I fill the tank the guage reads FULL, but after that it's anyone's guess as to how much gas is actually in the tank. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, how did you resolve the problem? Does the Cadillac company assume any responsibility to help correct the problem? Thanks to anyone who can help and you can respond to my email at gleatont@squared.com.

I have a 97 DeVille. I hope someone could help me figure the problem I am having with it. It acts as though I have a blown fuse. My interior lights, cigarette lighter, trunk light, glove box light, & mirror vanity lights do not work. Everyone one of these are on the same circuit - I have checked the fuse - it was NOT blown - but I still replaced with a known good fuse - nothing - I can't find anything wrong anywhere - Also, there is a confusing mystery to all of this. The lights that illuminate the twilight switch, power window buttons, passenger climate control knob, & the power seats stays on constantly no matter if the car is shut off or running.

Please help if you can.

I also have a 1997 Cadillac Deville, and my interior lights do not work either. I changed the fuse with a known good fuse and the interior lights still fail to operate. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

Reacting on the comments on the interior lights not working in your Cadillac. My Cadillac has a light sensor and senses when it gets dark outside, they will only come on in the dark. I hope this helps.

I love my 1999 Cadillac Deville D'elegance. Has 177,000 miles and still runs like a top.
