2004 Chevrolet Aveo LS from North America

Summary:

Great little car

Faults:

Remote key failed under warranty. Some squeaks.

General Comments:

After market cost to replace the belt less than most similar cars.

My wife the loves the car, and I have no problem with it.

Highly under rated by people comparing it to high-end myths.

Don't know what 100,000 will bring, but I'll find out.

2004 Chevrolet Aveo LS 1.6L Etec from North America

Summary:

Squeekers is cute, but I wouldn't get another one

Faults:

At 63,000 the valve cover gasket gave out and shot oil all over the exhaust manifold. Cost 186.00.

64,000 - needed new brakes.

At 69,000 miles the timing chain decided to snap while going 80 down a hill 50 miles out side of Needles CA.

General Comments:

My sister had this car since 2006, I got it from her over the summer. So in all honesty a lot of its problems could be due to the fact that she doesn't know anything about taking care of a car. But since I've had it, it has been nothing but trouble.

To its credit it has been really good on gas. I've pulled 28 to 29mpg out of it in the city and about 36 on the interstate. The seats are comfy front and back. The acceleration is okay for what it is, as are the brakes and handling.

However, it has left us stranded when the timing chain exploded. Parts are hard to find for it when you take it to a GM dealership, especially a small one that doesn't carry little cars. If yours isn't under warranty and you can't find a timing belt for it, it is the same thing as a Pontiac G3, or a Daewoo (it's actually just a Daewoo with Chevy badges).

I'd recommend it as a commuter car, but not for road trips, and for the love of god keep it maintained.

2004 Chevrolet Aveo from North America

Summary:

This car is reliable

Faults:

Faulty fuel pump after a month of owning it, but the warranty covered it.

Took it in to have the seat belts fixed because of the recall.

Just now at 120,000 miles, I find that my spark plugs need to be replaced for the first time, as well as my oil gasket.

Timing belts was changed at around 80,000 miles. It was shredded. I went in for an oil change and it was discovered.

General Comments:

Overall this car has been a great investment. It's taken me up and down the west coast through every single type of weather you can think of.

It's braved two years of pretty heavy winters in Spokane, Wa, two years of hot temps in Yuma, Az, and two years of mild weather in Lubbock, Tx.

This car is great on gas. I've been back and forth between these three cities for the past 6 years, and I knew I could count on my little car.

Get the shift linkage checked, and what do you mean the alternator "went out" did it unbolt itself and walk out of the engine compartment??? :O.

2004 Chevrolet Aveo LS 1.6 from North America

Summary:

It's not that great of a car..

Faults:

The engine light continues to come on.. Now it just stays on...

If the car is idling it the heat works great, but as soon as you start going then the needle on the temp gauge goes down to 0 and it's freezing. My windows fog up and I have to open the window just so the fog will go away on the windshield so I can see.

As of now I am really not happy with this car... We bought it in March of '08 and were only December... It has 63k. I like Chevy's but I will never buy an Aveo again that's for sure...
