1997 Chevrolet Blazer 4DR 4WD LS 4.3L V6 from North America

Summary:

A high powered sport utility. Nice

Faults:

Had a transmission problem on the 2nd day I owned the Truck. I had transmission rebuilt by the owner of the car lot. Other than that, I've had no problems.

General Comments:

This truck has wonderful handeling at any range of speed.

There have not been any engine noizes or chirping of any type. Even with the high mileage on the truck.

The engine is powerful for its size and is very gas efficient.

This truck maintains very well in any type of weather.

This is an all-around vehicle.

Good Luck to you. My engine blew at 60,000 original miles, and the 4 wheel drive stopped working in cold or wet weather. What good is 4 wheel drive in Vermont if it won't work in the snow? My blazer was the Tahoe LT edition, fully loaded, it was beautiful, but it turned out awful, I got rid of it in 6 months.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3 from North America

Summary:

A repair shop's dream

Faults:

My dealership loves me: 160k and.

At about 45k the fuel pump quit 600 bucks.

At 60k the transmission died 1200 bucks.

I have had the door bushings replaced 6 times at about 60 bucks a trip.

One day while driving down the highway the windshield cracked from one side to the other.

Front rotors replaced 4 times (after the second time I bought lifetime rotors)

Front end raises up when you step on the gas (acts like a dragester leaving the line)

Front brake pads WOW maybe 6 times (after the second trip to the shop we installed life time pads)

Wiper motor died at 100,000.

Carpet on the driver's side is worn thought to the steel.

Rear hatch rattles non-stop.

Now the time decides to stall whenever it wants to and my dealer says there is nothing wrong. LOL.

Rear wiper motor replaced at 145,000.

Other than these problems it's not a bad ride.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3 liter, V6 from North America

Summary:

Nice size, but unreliable

Faults:

The first few weeks I had the truck, it would not start, I found by sheer luck that the ground wire to the battery was lose.

Next, the driver side rear seat latch was broke.

A few months later, I noticed whenever I had a passenger in the front seat, the interior lights would turn on and off and the door locks would not work. After several trips to the dealer, they found that some wires traveled through the passenger seat lumbar area, and were getting pinched.

About this time the transmission started a hard up-shift. I mean really hard, the tires would chirp and it would whip my head and neck really hard. I took it to the dealer many, many times. They could not duplicate the problem. (I was very specific in describing the problem.) After a few miles of speeds over 50 mph, when I came to a stop and tried to pull out. This is when it would happen. Yet if I turned it off, and waited a few minutes, it would reset, and the problem was gone until the next time. The dealer found nothing, until it was out of warranty. At this point, I went to another shop, and got a new transmission.

Two new batteries.

New alternator.

New water pump.

New wiper motor.

New tension device for belt.

Vehicle stinks when air conditioner is used.

General Comments:

I always have it serviced, every 3 thousand miles. These problems are not from abuse. As a women owner, I felt the dealer would not take my problems seriously.

I will not be purchasing another Chevy. product...EVER!

Personal preference: the rear hatch window tint is a little too dark. Backing up in a dark parking lot is difficult.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3 from North America

Summary:

Horrible!

Faults:

Where should I start? Service engine soon light won't turn off unless you unplug the battery. Dealer says nothing is wrong.

Air bag light won't turn off unless you cut the wire behind the dash, again dealer says nothing is wrong.

Wipers work when they want too.

Transmission shifts extremely hard between 1st and 2nd gear after it has been driven for a while (20 minutes or more)

The truck will die for no reason at stoplights, when it is first started, just driving at highway speeds, yet according to dealer there is nothing wrong with it, apparently all vehicles do this!

Goes through brake pads like there is no tomorrow, I have had them replaced at different garages 3 times.

Rear window rattles non stop.

New ball joints at 75k.

General Comments:

It seems to have plenty of power to tow and just general driving, when running!

Interior is laid out very nice, but it is not worth the headache.

Dear Mr. Owner:

I have been through the same problem, between 1st and 2nd shift, after driving on the highways. This problem is related to the computer, since after disconnecting it, blazer start to operate as soft as it start new. Anyway, this is a big problem, once you start to have it, it seems like the engine would brake in two.

Please, if anybody knows another way to solve this, I would appreaciate it. Thanks.-

Gustavo.
