"Decent, but not the best"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Radiator started leaking and had to be replaced (plastic/aluminum radiators are a pain since they cannot be repaired).

Front brake rotors warped and had to be replaced.

Starter motor died and had to be replaced twice.

Air conditioning system needed complete rebuild (done by dealer, thank God).

Power steering pump needed replacement due to leak.

Interior components (arm rest, center console door) fell apart, and had to be replaced.

Upper ball joints replaced.

Rear brake shoes replaced.

All shocks replaced.

General comments?

I acquired this vehicle used after my wife rolled our previous S-10 Blazer. We liked the powerful Vortec V-6, the looks, and the space of the vehicle.

After having driven it for a while, I am not entirely pleased. It has a terrible, jittery, punishing ride that is hard to tame. I've balanced the wheels, changed to better shocks, and rotated tires to try and get rid of the vibration, but only partially succeeded. Evidently, springs are too stiff to provide a comfortable ride. I will go down a size in tires when the present tires wear out. Another common Blazer headache is the weak brakes. The front rotors on my previous Blazer constantly needed resurfacing to take out the warping. I've installed Raybestos rotors, but these aren't anything super hot, so not sure if this will cure the problem. In my opinion, it's a design flaw: brake rotors are not big enough to take the heat of stopping this heavy rig.

The motor pulls well, but the weight of the vehicle can be felt on steep hills, where downshifting is necessary. The A/C has developed a glitch of shutting off while coasting. If you romp on the gas, it kicks back in. Weird... It has a lot of annoying little rattles, but the body is basically sound. Despite the age of the vehicle, interior materials and exterior paint look very good, and when polished and cleaned up, it's still a sharp looking machine.

All in all, a mixed bag of good and bad. If you want a solid, flawless vehicle, this is probably not it. For those mechanically inclined, these are decent vehicles, but they take attention to keep them going.

Is the reviewer reviewing the full-size Blazer or S10 Blazer? The only problems I've had with my 94 S10 Blazer is a fuel pump that quit ($500 Canadian) and a clogged EGR valve ($50 Cdn). Just curious if I'm going to run into the same problems as the reviewer. I suspect he's talking about the Full-size because he refers to the vehicle as being a "heavy rig". The little S10 Blazer doesn't strike me as a heavy rig.

Mark.

I have a 1994 S10 Blazer. The only problems I have had with this outstanding vehicle is the fuel pump and the EGR valve. Replaced them both and had no problem. I have never drove such a nice ride! Even the girls like it!

The 4.3 Vortec engine delivers the power you need to beat any car off the line!

I have a 1993 S 10 Blazer, with a 4.3 Vortec.

Fuel pump quit, and alternator bearings went.

Has very poor rear brakes if any at all.

Also a very harsh ride.

I have a 1993 S-10 Blazer Tahoe LT pushing 130,000 miles and it still looks and rides like a dream. I put mainly city and highway miles on it and have no vibration or road noise to speak of. It also handles great in heavy snow. These are very sound machines. In response, 'These SUV's' are not inherently dangerous and when driven correctly are very safe and reliable vehicles. accidents will happen, but don't condemn the entire class.

These cars are great!, If they were so terrible or had so many problems, why are they so popular? My 1993 is a four door four wheel drive, even with 110K the transmission shifts smooth and the engine purrs like a kitten. The vortec 6 cylinder is an amazing engine, great fuel injection from only ONE large fuel injector, these actually run better than the newer blazers/S-10s and they have a more advanced fuel injection system. The 4.3 is a torque monster, something most SUV's lack today (probably because of fuel economy problems. About the ride, of course its rough, look at the wheelbase of the vehicle, what can you expect? Just spend a little money on it and get some bilstien shocks, its like riding in a boat once you install them. I believe that these are some of the most practical vehicles on the road; not too big, not too small, and enough power to get you out of a tight spot.

Concerning brake problem. I have 1993 S10 Tahoe 175k.

Dealer did ABS upgrade/recall. Was done free of charge!! Makes truck stop better than ever! Before this I always felt brakes were never there in a demanding stop situation.

Upgrade included new ABS module, new vacuum hose setup and routing. Big package. Seems like GM was trying to fix up a problem very common for these trucks. Also, on fuel injectors, when replacing the cpi unit, replace the "nut kit" (fuel lines) while in there! I replaced cpi at 115k. At 174k thought I was having cpi problem once again. Opened intake, area under fuel lines was clean... regulator side dirty as normal. Replaced nut kit and I replaced the injector anyway, since I found a new AC Delco injector for $200 on ebay. Clean EGR while you are there too, much easier to get to with plenum cover off!!! Runs like brand new! As long as everything else holds up I'll keep it!

I've had similar experiences with my 1993 Blazer. Bad brakes, rattles, leaking radiator. Lots of little glitches always seemed to dog it. Still, I kept patching it up, and for the most part, it kept rolling along. It's amazing to look at the odometer and realize that the old junker now has 235,000 miles behind it! Also got dealer help with the ABS recall. This generation of Vortec V6 was a good one; the motor is the best part of the package. I think the tranny may finally be getting to the end of the road, but still, I sure got my money's worth of service out of the vehicle.

We have a 93 s-10 Tahoe, we bought it used a long time ago. It hasn't had too many problems, we replaced the compressor, water pump, fuel pump, and window motors.

I'm 16, so I only drive it when my mom wants to go somewhere, but it really pulls. Around here in NC, there are a lot of hills, and it has a little trouble on the steep ones, but all I do is push the gas more and it goes. It definitely is fun to drive.

I have a 1993 S-10 Blazer Tahoe with a Vortec V-6 and 150,000 miles on it and couldn't be more happy with it! A while back there was some engine trouble, but we soon found out that some idiot had put the muffler on backward!! Fixed it and beside the ordinary maintenance, it has run like a charm. It has the power to pull whatever and even outrun some street racer wannabees!! In mud, snow, ect, never got stuck once. It can get anything done. It's great for work and play! I plan on having this truck for a long time to come!! Another fine example of a Chevy!

I have a 1993 Chevy Tahoe Blazer (LT), and it's an amazing car.

I don't understand all the reviews; it's 4x4 and is very safe. I drive with my child in the car and never had a problem with breaking or getting stuck, and it has 230,000 miles
