I have a 98 with 294000 klm on it. We have had it for 3 years. Bought it with 225000 klm on it. The body and paint look fantastic, and it gets a lot of compliments. Problem is, it is old and unfortunately has become quite unreliable. I drive it infrequently and am constantly inundated with new problems.

Check engine light come on intermittently, the new fan belt is noisy, it loves antifreeze, replaced the head and intake gaskets, water pump, and guess what, it is now leaking.

Had the A/C recharged in 2008, in 2009 no more A/C!

Idler arm is due for replacement.

Makes horrible drive train noises in cold weather.

Tailgate fits so poorly you'd think it was made for another brand.

I can't even begin to list all the things that have gone wrong with this truck. It is in the shop way more often than all of our other four family vehicles.

It is a 2wd so it gets stuck in snow very easily.

I wish it was a 98 Toyota with the same miles, because I am sure it would be more reliable.

Sorry GM, after owning 40 vehicles, you have completely underwhelmed me... again.

260k and still running strong!

Same trans, same engine, AC still works, looks like hell.

Infamous door problems, broken handle on inside and out, had to get a whole new door.

Alignment is terrible, won't stay aligned.

Great truck though. Big Red is still kickin!

I have a 98 Z71.. Replaced the whole back and front brake system.

Needs tires and rims with a lift and a paint job.

Had her for 8 years... She is one tough truck.

All trucks need love. If you take care of it, she take care of you..

Wouldn't trade or sell her for anything... Old Faithful... my two cents worth.

Don't give up on your Z71 :)
