The Crown Vics still exist as police cruisers. One can buy a cruiser after a police department moves on from it. Will come with a supercharger and some cool added equipment.

10th Apr 2021, 20:27

"Will come with a supercharger" ? LOL

11th Apr 2021, 10:29

They do. Police cars are supercharged. Helps with chasing people down during pursuits.

12th Apr 2021, 18:24

The Crown Vic police interceptors are only supercharged on your planet.

On Earth, they came with a 4.6 liter V8 that had only slightly more horsepower than the civilian version.

This should be the end of this discussion, but sadly, it probably won't be.

12th Apr 2021, 20:05

And what make and models are you referring to?

13th Apr 2021, 18:42

Seems you won’t provide any evidence for your claim, so I will for mine:

https://fordauthority.com/2020/12/retired-crown-victoria-police-interceptor-is-a-supercharged-beast-video/

The Interceptor has around SUPERCHARGED 450hp via the Vortech supercharger.

This particular one is actually pretty cool because they did a transmission swap to a 6 speed manual.

14th Apr 2021, 00:44

Sure you don’t mean twin turbo?

15th Apr 2021, 04:13

I've seen a lot of provided links on here get nit picked by the commenter that you replied to, but do you really think a retired Crown Vic police interceptor with add on goodies from a private owner qualifies as a police car still in service chasing people down in pursuits?

15th Apr 2021, 21:59

I saw a TV show where old Caprice and Crown Vics were once refurbished for return to police duty. Spend 10 grand and have them like new. Now even some SUVs have high horsepower to chase cars out there. Our state once used anemic Diplomats and even Mustang state trooper cars. Couldn’t keep up. Of course outrunning a plane and radios is difficult. And roadblocks. If someone wants to do a twin turbo Crown Vic for fun, why not?

18th Apr 2021, 19:21

The posting of a link to a modified car as "proof" that any retired CVPI is supercharged is obviously ridiculous, so no response will be forthcoming. Nitpick that.

19th Apr 2021, 18:37

Even if someone saw it on a television show?

19th Apr 2021, 20:25

As stated in the comment, it was modified to have a 6 speed manual, which is obviously not standard. That doesn’t combat the fact that the engine is supercharged, which it is.

20th Apr 2021, 03:03

People do twin turbo them. I had the cars as new company cars. Great distant cruisers, strong A/C. Great brakes and cooling. 65-70 all the way all day. They served me well. Free car to use every few years (a new company car). No hassle, no payments, no trade in. Miss that now I'm retired.

20th Apr 2021, 18:40

Can you not distinguish between a factory equipped supercharger and one that was added on later as a modification, just like the manual transmission?

21st Apr 2021, 19:08

April 12, 18:24 “ The Crown Vic police interceptors are only supercharged on your planet.”

On this planet, that comment is just not true. You’re even admitting now the one in the link is supercharged.

23rd Apr 2021, 18:46

Hilarious. You really believe that a link to a Crown Vic that someone added a supercharger to somehow proves that any old Crown Vic police cruiser will have a supercharger?

Wait right here while I find a link to a Ford Pinto that someone put a V8 engine into, cos that will "prove" that ALL Ford Pintos came with V8 engines from the factory! Sit! Stay!

24th Apr 2021, 16:21

Someone may have changed the engines on the Pintos. Would have reduced the fire hazard.

24th Apr 2021, 19:59

So does also this apply to Crown Vic taxi cabs with the police interceptor option? Makes sense, seeing how you say that superchargers in regular police Crown Vics "help chase people down during pursuits". A supercharged taxi would help the driver speed through town if the passengers are running late for their destination.

24th Apr 2021, 22:00

I have had a few different disagreements with 18:46 on other threads in the past. Only this time they are right on the money, there is no Crown Victoria that came with a factory supercharger, police package or regular.

25th Apr 2021, 00:51

Do you mean twin turbo? You keep saying supercharger kit added. And if someone did, what’s the fuss.

25th Apr 2021, 14:02

Fire hazard was from the gas tank, not the engine.

25th Apr 2021, 14:17

A taxi would be balancing fuel economy with getting people places faster. A supercharger often means needing to use premium over regular fuel, too. So, that argument really doesn’t work. Police forces don’t care about fuel economy or type.

25th Apr 2021, 14:18

Exactly. Fussing over a supercharged interceptor. The commenter did not believe any existed, so that’s the issue.

25th Apr 2021, 22:04

"This should be the end of this discussion, but sadly, it probably won't be"

Ain't that the truth. Give it a week or two and these comments will probably be locked.

28th Apr 2021, 22:12

Why do you keep saying twin turbo? Do you know the difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger? It seems not.

18th Feb 2023, 15:47

When Chevy was Chevy! I love these cars from this time!

19th Feb 2023, 17:58

Unfortunately Chevrolet stopped being “Chevy” long before 1988. By this time all GM cars were cookie cutter across the brand.

20th Feb 2023, 23:45

Not necessarily. Both available engines for the car on review sold in the US (4.3 V6 & 5.0 V8) were Chevrolet built, technically making it a true "Chevy", though the wagons could also get the Olds 5.0. The mid-late 80's, when GM still had divisions, each were still actually making their own brand engines, but yet used in different models. Cookie cutter would for sure apply to today's GM, such as the "corporate" 3.6 V6. The exact same engine is used for anything left that still uses a V6. The truck V8's are still using Chevrolet tooling with the small block design.

1st Mar 2023, 19:09

I kind of have to agree that by 1988 GM was most definitely going down the cookie cutter rabbit hole in a major way. The biggest reason? Roger Smith, who was CEO of GM at the time and ended the divisional autonomy within GM. The led to the worst era of badge engineering at GM. As a kid I distinctly recall wondering why someone would buy a Buick or Oldsmobile when they were nearly identical to some Chevrolet models. In fact literally the only difference between some brands was literally the badge and a few interior trims bits and pieces. That era of GM is generally not looked upon fondly. GM nearly went bankrupt in 1990. IMHO their current CEO - Mary Barra - is the best CEO they've had in decades and the best chance for GM to rise above. But they still have issues. The V6 engines they are using in a lot of their vehicles have a nasty tendency to stretch their timing chains and self-destruct. Not a good look for a modern automaker.
