I used to drive a 88 5.0 GT and at the time there wasn't anything less than a Corvette or Twin-Turbo 300Z that threatened her on the road. I highly dispute an 88 Honda whatever model could even have outrun the 'Stang, unless of course the driver of the Ford wasn't that experienced, didn't feel like racing or was just...Duh!

I just got a 1999 Z24 Cavalier for my 16th birthday and I love it. It's probably the best car for a 16 yr old. Anti lock brakes, mine has a sun roof, automatic windows. Everything. Even a fairly good sound system for a factory system.

I had a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24. What a garbage car; I regret buying the car. Had nothing but problems, from my power sunroof not wanting to close, to power window motors giving up, and the ABS light would just come on automatically every now and then. Don't even get me started with the engine; the 2.4L twin cam sounded like rocks in a can when it idles.

I have always supported the BIG 3 and bought many cars from them, but I would never ever dare to touch them ever again.

The best part about my Cavalier is that I got a tax receipt for donating that piece of garbage to the Kidney Foundation!!

I really wish people with Z-24's would stop saying they have beaten Mustang 5.0's with them. Give me a break! Yeah, 150 hp 4 cylinder car with roughly the same torque beats a car with 225 hp and 300 lb. ft. of torque.

0-60 was at least 2 or 2 1/2 seconds slower for the Z-24 with the 4 cylinder in it. I had a 3.1 V-6 Z-24, and I also have had a couple of 5.0 Mustangs, and in no way is the Z an even close race to the 5.0. The 4 cylinder Z was slower than the older V-6 model, since they lost a lot of torque going from 6 cylinders to 4.

It makes me laugh when people say the Mustang wasn't all that fast too. 6.2 to 60 and a top speed of 141 mph was pretty darn fast in the 80's and early 90's. The only thing faster out of the U.S. was a Corvette, but it cost more than twice the price of a Mustang, so it better have been faster. Even the Corvettes were only doing 60 in around 5.8 seconds then though.

You can't fairly compare the 5.0 Foxbody Mustang to today's cars, as everything is much quicker these days. A RAV 4 does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds! However, the latest Mustang now does it in about 4.6 seconds, so it still is pretty much the fastest American car, other than the Corvette. It still edges out the Camaro by a couple tenths. The Camaro and Firebird had their glory from '93-'02 with the Vette engines in them though.

Mustangs are pieces of crap, just like any other Ford on the road. And I am witness to a Z24 hanging right with a 5.0. A Mustang is a waste of a car. A Camaro 6 cylinder will beat a 5.0.

I've owned and operated a dealership for the past 14 years now, and we specialize in STRICTLY Cavaliers. That car was obviously treated like s**t if it sounded anything remotely close to "rocks in a can". The base 2.2, and the Z24 2.4 LD9 motors are some of the best blocks ever created in a car; their reliability is undeniable. I've been driving a 1999 Z24 for 12 straight years now, with 327k miles on it, and I can guarantee it runs better than most 2010's and above.

I've worked on and sold over 1,500 Cavaliers. I know these cars like the back of my hand, and your advice is wrong... Don't listen to this guy people.
