1988 Chevrolet Celebrity 2.8 V6 from North America

Summary:

The perfect car when looks and style aren't the most important concern.

Faults:

Air conditioner compressor froze up completely at about 43,000 miles.

General Comments:

What a great car! Other than the A/C compressor freezing up, nothing else has gone wrong with this car. It always starts, it great on gas, comfortable, and reliable. I don't have to worry about parking it anywhere or anyone stealing it. This car has no real options, other that cruise, tilt, a/c and rallye wheels. It has decent acceleration, very nice riding on the highway, and good on gas. It goes through the snow with out any problem and without snow tires. It is an extremely easy car to work on and all the parts are cheap!! The a/c compressor cost me all of $68 and I put it in myself with no problems. Too bad them don't make them anymore!

1988 Chevrolet Celebrity EuroSport 2.8L from North America

Summary:

Better than any newer one

Faults:

Just recently I replace the whole charging system. Alternator shorted the battery, that killed the starter.

General Comments:

I bought this car for 950 dollars. Replaced a lot just because I am a perfectionist. The car has never broke down until the alternater went. I drive this car at least 100 miles a day at excessive speeds. And have never been more happy.

I am updating my comment. I still have this car and have not driving it much this year. All my lower mounts were bad and busted my power steering line, would not hold fluid. Replaced powersteering pump, told my rack was bad. Had a guy to fix it. He took the stablilizer bar off and it set for 6 months without him touching it. Had another mechanic work on it and told me my high pressure line busted. Replaced and had stabilizer bar put back on. Because it set so long it had bad gas, so I replaced plugs. I drove it home and started missing. Tried to drive it back to work and got stranded. I had it towed. I pulled wires loose when I was changing the back plugs witch caused the alternater to stop charging. Now my mounts are all new and wires re attached, but the mechanic cannot get it to start. The starter will not respond, when he finishes it and figures out what is wrong I will have over 4 grand in the restoration project. Next paint and new transmission and I will have a new car.

I am again updating my comment. I finally got it running. My ground was loose. The motor mounts were so worn that the engine was grounding itself to the frame. When he put the new mounts on it lifted the engine to its proper position and no longer was grounded. It has a slight miss that I have not had time to check out, but my wife is driving it everyday till her car is out of the shop. Still how rough I treated this car I am still amazed about its durability and hope to have it fully restored very soon.

I just got one for 350$, it sat for 2 years and turned right over. Cool.

Updating my comment again. I found out why it missed; a vacuum line was busted on, the egr valve could not see it.

I have been driving this car everyday since the last comment and it has not had a problem, been as dependable as ever, just rolled over 190,000 mark and still has all the power I need.

I did however lose a wheel going down the highway and skidded on the wheel housing, messed my finder up and have to find another eurosport wheel to match the others, but still a great and dependable car.

I just drive it local now, her traveling days are over since we have newer cars, but I will never get rid of that one.
