2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD from North America - Comments

"Needs a reworking!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Seats stain easily and badly, even if only water is spilled on them. Upholstery cleaner will clean the stain, however, the cleaner will stain the seats as well.

Driver side floor mats are of a very low quality material. A hole was worn in the middle of the mat after only four (4) months of use.

Very loud rattling in dash when the air conditioning is running, except at the lowest speed.

Rear suspension makes a creaking sound when the vehicle is in reverse, or traveling over any semi-rough to rough terrain.

General comments?

Very spacious, and family oriented.

Reasonably priced. I have almost every available option, and purchased it for only $21,000 with a Honda Civic trade-in.

Sounds like you should've kept the Civic. That'll still be on the road long after the Equinox is in the junkyard.

True...but the Civic will be a rust bucket in a matter of a few years =)

My civic had rust on the roof after only a year.

I have a '05 Equinox with 21K miles, I had a knock/noise in the suspension, the fix was front sway-bar links. Also had a rattle in the dash, the clips to seat it were not installed correctly. All in all, I like this vehicle. Fairly quiet, good ride, good power.

Mine has had the sway bar link replacement also. I had a bump-bump noise over bumps and sometimes if you spun the front wheels a bit you could hear it. It actually turned out to be the steering column. Yes I have had a few things with it and I do wish it did a little better than 17 miles to the gallon in a mix of city-highway, but I love it anyway. I like the way it drives, handles, and the cargo area is much easier to deal with than a car. The AWD works very well in the snow we sometimes we get in Wisconsin. I will likely get another one when my lease expires in 2009.

Perhaps if you took the time to wax your civic 4-5 times a year you wouldn't have that problem. Oh, and it needs oil changes every 3000 miles. Just a helpful hint.

My Husband bought me a 2005 Equinox for my birthday here in August. I really like the vehicle. It was a nice trade up from my tiny 97 Mustang with two boys in the back.

I am having a clicking/knocking sound that is similar to grinding or creaking when I turn the wheels right or left or make a hard turn. I checked the front struts out and found that they were sitting on top of my wheels, and there are actually rub marks on my wheels from the strut rubbing on them!! I have to take it to the dealer tomorrow to get it looked at. I am pretty scared to do that after reading all the problems associated with this particular year. I wonder why Chevy hasn't had a recall on these issues since so many Equinox owners are obviously plagued with them.

All in all, I like the vehicle, time will tell tomorrow when I find out what child I will have to give up to fix it. LOL.
