1993 Chevrolet Lumina Base 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Snap your neck acceleration!

Faults:

The rubber seals around the doors leak are very bad.

Transmision shifts wildly around 50 miles per hour.

Rear suspension has gone out.

General Comments:

By far the best thing pertaining to this wonderful machine is the acceleration. It jerks you back when you floor it.

The climate controls are not illuminated, which makes them difficult to see at night.

The audio controls are hard to reach.

I love how low the car sits. It makes it feel very sporty.

On twisty roads the car is very nimble and precise.

Very cold air conditioner.

Ample back seat room for tall adults.

1993 Chevrolet Lumina Z34 from North America

Summary:

Too expensive to maintain

Faults:

This car has been the Devil's child for me. The thermostat and water pump is being replaced at 117,000. After having that fixed the head gaskets will have to be checked, but the assumption has been made that they are probably blown, which is about $600-$900 of repairs. The fuel pump had to be replaced at about 110,000 miles, which cost about $350.00. I have also had a problem with oil leaks and coolant leaks that cannot be located when the mechanic checks it. I have had the most horrid experience with the power locks. On many occasions the doors have locked with my keys in the car without having been intentionally locked. Something in this style door is triggered to lock when the door is slammed. The interior of this car holds very well. Also, I must say, performance wise this car can "get up and go!" But be careful this car cost to maintain. The parts are very expensive.

General Comments:

This car can go and it handles well.

This car is a gas guzzler.

The factory audio system is this car is great.

Locks are extremely hard to open in the event the keys are locked in.

1993 Chevrolet Lumina APV 3.0 from North America

Summary:

The Chevy Lumina APV seems to be made very cheaply

Faults:

All of the handles have broken on the doors except for the side door. The knob pulled right off of the back door right after we purchased the van.

After the van started over heating, we discovered that the head bolt that goes down through the oil reservoir had broken off in the engine block. That has been the only major thing that has gone wrong.

The mirrors are falling apart in the visors, which is just a minor thing. There are just a lot of little things like that going wrong, the most annoying right now being the door handles which continue to break. You can only open them from the inside when that rod pulls loose inside the door handle.

The windows get stuck when rolled down and you can't get them back up very easily sometimes. Then they work just fine for a while again.

The rear air and heat vents are worthless. They barely blow out anything.

General Comments:

It seems to get fairly good gas mileage.

It is small and cramped inside to me, and feels more like driving a car than a van.

The little things are falling apart and seem to be made very cheaply.

The worst thing that has gone wrong was the head bolt that broke off in the engine block.

Summary:

High perfomance for a mid sized sedan

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

I've only had it two days, but the power is unbelievable and the transmission is smooth.

This car is great and sporty, only problem is the motor has a small pinging when it gets to operating temperature.
