Give the new Malibus a look before writing the Malibu off. The new ones ('08 and '09) are totally redesigned and are incredible cars.

My car now has 40,000 miles on it. I'm still on the same tires, and brakes. The knock when I turn the steering wheel has returned. Of course now that I'm out of warranty. I still have the rattle in the dash which I cannot get rid of. I very much would like to get rid of the car before I have to sink a bunch of money into it. It started out as a dream but now has become a nightmare.

The clunk in the steering is fixed. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the steering shaft for free. The car now has 42,000 miles. The service desk told me that GM came up with a new steering shaft and this should fix the problem for good.

50,000 miles still runs like new, still has original everything except steering rod, and tires. What a great car.

53,000 miles, just replaced front rotors and pads. Still love the car.

I originated this posting. I just traded in the Malibu on a 2010 Malibu today. The transmission started to act up, so it was time to say goodbye before repairs cost too much.

Actually, if I had this much trouble with ANY GM or Ford, I'd be very disappointed. None of ours has ever had a single problem before 100,000 miles. The new 2010 is a GREAT car with awesome looks and great build quality (way ahead of Honda and certainly Toyota). With a 100,000 mile warranty, you are set for years. Congrats on a really great car.

I actually lied my 2006 Malibu better than the 2010. I think the 2006 was more comfortable, but it didn't have all cool stuff the 2010 has.

I miss my Malibu. I hate to drive the 2010 Malibu. It is hard to see put pf and isn't as comfortable. I am the original poster.
