1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great luxury and performance for the price

Faults:

Nothing major at all.

Leather seats worn a bit.

Ash tray lid broken.

Center console broken.

That's it.

No performance problems at all.

If you maintain the car, it will love you forever.

General Comments:

The car has 100k miles on it, and it feels better than it did since I bought it, thanks to new plugs/wires.

Tranny feels great, and the engine feels smooth.

While the car isn't a racer, it picks up for its heavy body. It's a great car to cruise around in. Very comfortable, and roomy:

The back seat is very roomy for a 2 door. The seats fold down in the back, I was able to fit an 8' ladder in the trunk. Everything in the car has room.

Doors may be a bit heavy for some, but it's a Monte Carlo, not a Honda.

It handles great in the rain and snow.

Gas mileage is about average.

****Major Testament **** I was in an accident in this car; a pick up truck hit me nearly head on and no damage to the frame at all. I got the car repaired and it looks better than new. This is a very safe car to be in, it's built strong and there's nothing cheap about it. Nearly the whole driver's side needed to be repaired.

Bottom Line: It's not a 4 door Lumina as most will tell you. This is a very sleek and stylish car car. I am 21 years old, and this car is far from a "old mans" car as most will say as well. Best thing I have ever bought. I get compliments on it all the time. I love it.

1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z-34 314 Liter DOHC from North America

Summary:

A good buy if you can fix your own car

Faults:

Had the brakes fixed when I first bought the car. Easy $40 fix from parts store. Of course the ashtray and center console were broke when I bought it, ran great with no problems for almost a year. Now the tranny blew and I bought another one. While the engine was out I replaced all gaskets and seals on the new tranny, rebuilt the starter and alternator since its hard to get to otherwise. Bought new plugs and wires, new timing belt, serpentine belt, rotors on front (performance). Bought new exhaust, front suspension and Fixed the small oil leak on top of the engine.

General Comments:

Car was good when I first bought it, had a small problem with the front hub about 6 months in and now the tranny. Very reliable car now going into college. Car handles good and can beat most cars on the road.

1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 3.4L 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A POS bargain

Faults:

This car is really nice, although I have had the car in the shop five times since I bought the car for 2500.

Once I bought the car, it cost me a total of over 500 to repair the car to working condition.

The first thing that happened, was when I started the car, it would idle high and stall out. I brought it into the shop to be fixed, and found out I needed all new spark plugs plus 3 new vacuum lines, plus a new gasket and a sensor. They thought that would fix it, but it still idled high and stalled out. They took it to a dealership, and they put on a new fuel intake computer, which so far has worked out.

Five minutes after getting the car out of the shop for the first time in 2 weeks, the throttle cable went. That was cheap, costing me $40.

Then a few days later, my window came off the track. I am fixing that by myself, but it is a pain in the rear end.

Now I am currently repairing the passenger side window, which is either off the track or jammed. I'm still trying to figure out what's up with it.

I like the car, but this is only the third month that I've owned it. We are still dealing with all the problems, but I plan on keeping it, because it runs smoothly for now!!!

General Comments:

I love this car despite all the problems that I have encountered.

The car is extremely powerful, which is nice.

I would think about it before deciding to buy this car, as I have put a good amount of money in to it. Good luck with your Monte.

I wish I would have found your review sooner. My Z34 has the same problem yours did. A horrible cold start problem. Goes up to about 3,000 rpms and shuts of unless your foot is kept on the gas. Not a good thing to do. Its been 8 days and they still haven't found the problem. I'll keep this in mind.

I agree with the last comment. I wish I would have read this before buying my car. I seem to be having the same problem... idling high, then stalling out. Started just after I got it. I love the car, but... not too into the fact that I just bought it and it needs to be fixed.
