1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS ZR-2 4.3 Vortec from North America

Summary:

One tough little piece of machinery

Faults:

Fuel pump quit 2 weeks after I bought the truck.

Both door panels cracked, 3rd door handle shattered.

Radiator exploded.

Engine blew up at 152,000 miles.

Master brake cylinder exploded.

Catalytic converter fell off.

General Comments:

Despite everything that happened... I still love this truck. I've put it through absolute hell, things that would destroy other trucks in a day. It is excellent offroad and on the highway.

I'm sure everything that went wrong with this truck is probably my fault for treating it so badly. To give you an idea of how tough these trucks are, I'll tell you that the truck made it 3 miles farther down the road running on 2 cylinders after the motor blew.

General Comments:

It's single cab, but this thing has been through hell and back, and it's a daily driver.

Great little trucks, auto trannies seem to go forever even when starting to slip if you drive it easy, don't even think about putting a 5.7 liter on the stock tranny.

4 cylinder engine models are great on gas, but not reliable in the long run. As compared to other 4 bangers on the market.

Good reliable daily transportation for someone that needs a pickup. Hope it serves you well like the 3 I've had did. I no longer need a pick-up so I drive a 43 MPG fuel miser, and it's great never going to get gas.

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS Ext Cab V6 4.2L from North America

Summary:

Good reliable truck, looks good and it is decent on gas

Faults:

So far nothing has went wrong with this vehicle, I just recently bought it this year and everything looks and runs great.

The only problem I do have is that when you start it up to let it warm up while it's cold outside, the engine for some reason is very loud. It kinda sounds like a diesel. Anyone else having this problem?

General Comments:

Besides the loud noise of the engine, everything is perfect with my S-10!! I hope it stays that way in the years to come.

It is possibly a ticking lifter (s) that are causing the problem.

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LE 4.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

It is a nice truck I think

Faults:

Nothing really has gone wrong with my truck, the only thing is the bad gas mileage, but I helped that with the tornado, and put on a cold air intake. the two of them really helped improve my gas mileage.

General Comments:

I really like my 1999 Chevy s10.

There is always room to make improvements.

Yes, a lot of improvements.

1999 Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 V6 from North America

Summary:

Wimpy

Faults:

Reclining handles on both seats!

Wheel hub assembly.

General Comments:

Passenger side handle broke when I first got it - but it isn't the handle or the screw holding it in, it's the shaft. It was covered under warranty then, but now the driver side handle JUST FELL OFF because we've had very cold weather - Whatever metal they made those out of seriously sucks. The shaft sheared off, screw still in the handle. I'm sure it's going to cost an arm and a leg to fix now!! I guess I just won't recline.

Another typical problem with s-10's wheel hub assembly (bearings) had to have both replaced @ 35 and the driver side again at 75. I don't even take it off road!!

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LE 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Good truck to own if you have plenty of money for gas and repairs

Faults:

At 10000 miles the service engine light came on for no apparent reason. I took it to the draler where I bought the truck and they could find nothing wrong. Their solution was to disconnect battery cable overnight so that it would reset. At 16000 miles the alternator went out. At 34520 the water pump went out, at 41,000 the alternator went out again along with the drivers side recline handle breaking. At 40000 the door hinge on the drivers side broke. At 51000 the water pump went out again. At 54000 the drive shaft flew apart no warning such as bad u-joint noise etc.. At 74000 the alternator went out for a third time. At 104000 the intake manifold gasket blew. The mileage has been terrible 11-12 MPG. Expensive vehicle to own, but on the flip side extremely comfortable to drive very good handling truck.

General Comments:

The truck is very expensive to drive, terrible mileage.

The truck rides and handles like a dream.

These trucks never came with a 3.4. It is either a 2.2 4 cylinder or a 4.3 v6.

Wow, the dealers see no history about bad alternators.. I'm on my 4th NEW alternator at 90,000 mileage.
