I see nothing in the review to justify this diatribe. Guy got an old car, got caught up on maintenance, and is rightfully pleased to have a good car for low cost. Privilege? Bootstraps? Please take the class war elsewhere.

You can’t divorce the discussion of the cost of car ownership from many intractable social issues though. Like with so many things, you can only save money on what is often a necessity by having a decent amount to start with. If one doesn’t have the tools, space, time, and/or knowledge to perform their own maintenance, buying an old Chrysler is not a realistic option; it’s just throwing away five grand. This reviewer just spews their opinion like a universal truth.

You make it sound as though the owner spent a massive amount of money on schooling, tools and building a shop, just to fix the small problems on their Chrysler.

Even not having the knowledge, space, tools, education, whatever else you think it takes; It is still less costly spending 5k on an older vehicle and having a shop do the random repairs than it would be spending over $800 a month payment on something brand new with shoddy build quality.

The reviewer is a hero! Rather than being bent over a barrel on a new car payment and insurance, he revived a 1987 car and put it back into service. That’s what this site is all about.
There may be some who would say it’s not fair, or to use the Newspeak term, “equitable” that some people have knowledge and skills that others don’t have. They might even say it is “ableist” to have skills that others don’t have. The reality of life is that some people have knowledge and abilities that not everyone else has and sometimes having knowledge and skill translates directly into a financial benefit. Being able to fix up an old car will save the reviewer thousands, maybe tens of thousands. Now this is not an unfair advantage because anyone with a handful of functioning brain cells can gain information for free from shop manuals at a library or from the internet and YouTube, and a large set of tools only costs a hundred bucks.
For those who believe that ambition, striving for self improvement, the gaining of knowledge is “ableist” or “inequitable” maybe their solution is to wait for the government to hand out free cars to everyone. Then nobody would have to feel shamed because everyone would be equal. Since that is unlikely, this review shows that a little self reliance will get you farther than waiting on a handout or becoming enslaved to the bank for transportation.

Point out where in this review you think that the writer is judging other people. If anything they are judging 5 year old used cars that are overpriced and built like crap; can't blame them for that.
