"A sleek and stylish quick convertible"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Convertible top has holes and leaks when it rains.

Transmission is rough.

Tachometer doesn't always work.

Speedometer doesn't cut on every now and then.

Timing belt replaced at about 170,500 miles.

Can't lock or unlock doors from outside with key.

Trunk release doesn't work.

Rear quarter windows don't work.

Front leather seats are torn to shreds.

General comments?

I know that's a long list of things that have gone wrong with this car, but the people that owned this car before me didn't maintain it very well.

I can guarantee that when this car was brand new it was very nice and could probably smoke any other car in it's class out on the road.

The top doesn't go down anymore because it is in such bad condition, which really sucks when you have a convertible and you can't even put the top down during the summer. It does leak when it rains, but it doesn't get on me. Just the passengers.

The transmission in this car isn't that great, but everybody knows that Chrysler isn't known for making the best transmissions, though they do make nice cars. It is an electronic 4-speed automatic tranny, but it does this really weird thing sometimes where it shifts into 2nd gear and you can't go any faster, so you have to pull over the side of the road and restart your car. The problem goes away though.

The Mitsubishi 3.0L V-6 is still pretty quick for a 12 year old motor. It packs quite a punch for a 141 horsepower v-6, which is nothing special by todays standards, but was quite nice in 1992. It does 0-60 in 12 seconds which is very shameful for a V-6, but brand new it did it in 9 flat. When I push the petal all the way to the floor, you can definitely tell this car has some power in it. It roars rather loudly and feels great when you gun it. It kinda scared me the first time I did it because the engine is usually pretty quiet and mild, but when I put the petal to the floor, it was soo loud.

In general, this is an overall good car considering the condition it's in plus the fact that it's older than my 11 year old sister. I love this car, and it's very dependable. During the winter it cranks like brand new even when it's freezing outside. It gives me trouble in the summer, but I can live with it. This is just a very well built-to-last car.

Actually, it's quite common for Chrysler's 4-speed electronic transmissions to shift into 2nd gear, and not move out. My family owned a 93 Town and Country that would do the same thing as your LeBaron. It would get stuck in 2nd gear and we would have to stop the van and restart it. Chrysler calls this their "Reset Mode." Beware though, you can only expect to restart it, and get it to shift past 2nd for so long. Unfortunatley I know from experience, after about the 3rd transmission, we decided enough was enough, and got rid of it.

I have had this same problem and there is a speed sensor on the top of the transmission to the left right under the battery. This will make the car get stuck in first or second and you will have to restart the car. cost is about $26.00 at any part store and solved my problem. Verry simple to replace, about tem minuites.

I had the same problem with the lock. There's a plastic coating on the hook thing that keeps the door closed. The coating was coming off and jamming enough to not allow it to be locked from the outside. Eventually, I couldn't even open my driver's side door from the inside. Once I took the coating off, the door worked like new. It's a white kind of thick coating. Hope that might help you!

I have a 92 Chrysler Lebaron and the transmission needs to be replaced. How do I find out what transmission I need, and what other car transmission can I used to replace the old one.

Sonny.
