1993 Citroen ZX Pzazz 1.4i petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A cheap quick car

Faults:

Nothing really has gone wrong with the car out of the ordinary.

General Comments:

I had a Peugeot 206 1.4 which I got a few years ago, but it was stolen and written off. I bought a ZX and was pleasantly surprised. The car looks older and less fashionable than my previous car, but is faster. I noticed that its acceleration was quicker than a 7 year younger Peugeot.

The ZX handles really nicely round country roads, unlike the poor handling the Peugeot had.

Altogether I think the ZX was better value for money than paying £8000 for a 206.

1993 Citroen ZX Aura TD 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

It'll go... and then it'll go pop!

Faults:

Wiring to the fuel pump broke.

Wiring to the fuel pump broke (again).

Head gasket at 98,000 miles.

Brake lights stay permanently on or flashed whenever the clutch was used.

General Comments:

It's my last Citroen ever. I had a petrol ZX Furio once and that had engine problems. I now have a blown ZX Turbo Diesel.

The car, while it lasted, was nippy for a diesel, but it slides - the handling is nowhere near my old Mazda 323. It makes it entertaining, though, but at times scary.

The steering's pretty dead, the engine (when it worked) was loud and the sunroof whistled above 50mph.

A disaster, despite FSH.

1993 Citroen ZX Avantage 1.9 diesel from France

Summary:

Very good

Faults:

Water pump started leaking at 80000 km. Changed for a reasonable price 70 £.

Rear window mechanism (manual) dead after 8 years.

Km zeroing button dead at about 90000 km.

General Comments:

Rear brakes were changed at 145000 km. Front brakes trimming replaced each 60000-70000 km, but still the original discs.

Clutch was changed at 197000 km.

Heating plugs were dead only at 190000 km.

Driving belt normally replaced at 80000 and 165000 km.

Batteries changed after 4 years and 100000 km.

Front tires (Michelin Energy) will last for about 70000-80000 km, the rear tires were changed at 135000 km, but were far from worn out.

Excellent car. Very low fuel consumption and leaving aside normal maintenance, no expensive repairs.

Comfortable and reasonable performance for the 70 HP of the engine.

1993 Citroen ZX Avantage 1.1 from Portugal

Faults:

Mostly I've had problems with the IR door locks, and it seems that the car's electrical system (user focussed) is not at all "bullet proof". It does have some problems with right side door locks and window electrical system, as well as the console lighting, which is not functioning.

General Comments:

I found this car to be an exceptional well built car. It's almost 7 years old and there are no major noises, and the engine is running quite smoothly.

Its cornering stability is impecable, and it's amazing how you can travel for 200 Km and not feel cramped up, due to its very good driving position and overall performance. It's been projected to take on the open road, with a good dose of comfort.

It's quite cheap to maintain and very cheap to drive.

It's my best car, and I also have a BMW...

Is it not true that the zx advantage, 93 model had to be recalled due to a fault, this in my girlfriends case was never done and has now spent 3 months in the garage after Citroen dealers refused to touch it.

What is this guy on about. make some sense. interpret his comments in three ways: 1. The ZX had no problems 2. The ZX had problems that your girlfriend did not get fixed 3. your girlfriend was recalled.

Can't wait to find out which it was... Safe money is on number 3.

I have a citroen zx 1.9 diesel 1992 model.

It seems this had the same problem with no lights on the dash.

I traced it to open circuit track on the lighting panel.

Only had it a few weeks, but very happy so far.

Phill.
