1997 Daewoo Nexia GLi 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A very underrated model

Faults:

Immobiliser failed.

Radio failed.

General Comments:

Although the car itself is very good the dealer service is incredible. The staff at Daewoo Belfast are fantastic.

The car although a "budget" model is great. Reliable, economical, reasonably well built and comfortable.

I can honestly say that I would be extememly reluctant to buy a car from any other manufacturer.

Seems the dealer makes all the difference.

I had no problems with Daewoo until the Glasgow dealership turned to Arnold Clark, then it went to rubbish. Poor service, arguing every warranty point (still waiting to be paid £800 for a cylinder head, which they refused to do anything to help under warranty, and I had to pay to get the car back!)

Unfortunately Daewoo Edinburgh seem to be just as bad. Gear linkage fell off just after having clutch replaced, then the air filter fell off, as they hadn't put it back. And to cap it all, they failed to find the poor running cause, only for me to find they hadn't replaced the fuel filter, despite it being paid for. Oh, and they hadn't replaced the brakes, despite them being 80% worn, and I specifically asked them to.

I will never buy another Daewoo again, and neither should anyone else in Scotland.

Faults:

Too long a list to put in here.

Suffice to say that after 18 months of ownership Daewoo still haven't fixed my central locking problem.

General Comments:

See above.

1997 Daewoo Nexia GLE 1.5 petrol from Poland

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

The car is rather cheap. It is easy to keep it in Poland (for 3 years you pay only for fuel). A few things could be made better but in general I'm glad I have this car.

1997 Daewoo Nexia GL 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Starting problems during first year caused by ignition.

Water in tail light.

Rusted wiperarms.

All this correctly handled by dealer. Also many loose screws in interior (nothing serious but still).

General Comments:

The car drives great, much better than the Opel Kadett I drove before this one (or Vauxhall in UK) which served as model for the Nexia. Mostly the starting problems at the beginning will make me never buy a car from this manufacturer again but I could just have had a Monday morning car.

1997 Daewoo Nexia GLXi 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Only that that hand brake light stayed on, fixed by the dealer on contact.

General Comments:

An Astra with a Daewoo 1.5 engine, with the package offered by the company you can't go wrong.

Read the other reviews. This one was written by one lucky guy or a Daewoo employee!

Bought My Nexia second hand and you can't get a better car for the price,

I brought a second hand Nexia off eBay last month for £520, and have spent £200 on a full service and exhaust. This is the cheapest car around for its money and a real bargain. At only 85k on the clock it has never let the previous owner down, the only problem that I have with the car is the sun roof leaks when you drive it in the rain! and I can't find out where it is leaking from. When I come to sell this car in a year or two I know that I will still get back the money that I paid for it.

Regarding the leakage, try to completely open the above window and look from above. If you see dust close to the front corners, you should use compressed air to blow the dirt from the rubber. Hope this will help.
