1998 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9L V6 from North America

Summary:

Average quality car. I like my first truck. I'm 17, but I need speed!

Faults:

The whole exhaust has been replaced from the cat-back.

The power steering is faulty sometimes.

The belt squeaks.

The paint is really fading.

The seat springs are broken.

Not very much hp stock (175) (190 with exhaust).

Kinda uses a lot of gas.

General Comments:

It's quick from the start.

The seats are starting to sink in.

It squeaks after it rains.

Gas is not too bad.

Paint is fading.

Nice first truck.

Handles well.

Not a very wide list of performance parts available (turbo kits/ supercharger kits?)

1998 Dodge Dakota SLT 5.2 from North America

Summary:

A blast to drive, but don't buy it if you don't like being out of pocket

Faults:

What has gone wrong with the truck.. uhmm new water pump, A arms, CV joints, front left and right hub assemblies, new bushings and bearings in front left and right, and a new starter.

General Comments:

OK, so even though everything mechanical possible went wrong with the truck.. I'm not going to recommend buying a Dodge to anyone.. even though I did it..

The truck is awesome, it's quick, handles good and has a good ride.. so much fun to drive, not to mention you'll smoke every other stock truck in its class haha.

1998 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9 V6 from North America

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

The only big thing that went wrong with this truck was at 120,000 miles the transmission had been having a hard time to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, but only in the cold weather.

The rest was just normal wear and tear from driving 100 miles a day.

I rebuild my Dakotas engine transfer case and front differential recently. When the engine was being taken apart, it only had normal wear and tear, and so I did the transfer case and front differential. The only big thing I had to replace was transmission.

General Comments:

This truck had great performance, even before it was rebuilt.

The best thing about this truck is that there are so many performance parts for it.

When I rebuilt it, I put some performance parts or heavy duty parts in it, so it could last another 198000 miles.

1998 Dodge Dakota Ext cab 5.2L V8 from North America

Summary:

Great all around truck

Faults:

Nothing yet.

I will post anything in the comments section if anything does go wrong.

Front brake rotors and pads will soon be replaced.

Tires replaced for towing. Stock ones are small radius and have little grip in rain.

General Comments:

Great little truck for the price. The Vehicle was in immaculate shape when I bought it used and still is. Gas mileage is OK. mine only came with a 60L tank and I avg about 400kms. Compared to a friends full size 1500 with the same motor.

The factory tires that came with the truck were horrible and looked like they were designed for a car so I replaced them immediately. In rain they carried hardly any grip and were horrible for towing my boat.

It handles very well; I have the RWD model. On the highway it has little road noise and the seats are very comfortable. The back bench are meant for kids or very short distances. a piece of plastic is the backrest. Its not comfortable.

The engine has a nice growl and idle to it like most V8s. at open throttle its got decent acceleration.

1998 Dodge Dakota Reg Cab 3.9L V6 from North America

Summary:

Great little truck - very reliable

Faults:

I only have two real faults with this vehicle.

The front end squeaks like a creaky door in a haunted house - and I mean loudly. It's almost embarrassing to drive. Hopefully everyone else's windows are up and their radios are on! New Shocks and oiling everything that moves didn't help.

The transmission slips only when making a left turn going into second gear. I've learned to put up with it since a transmission place is going to want $1500 to replace it. Flushing the transmission fluid hasn't helped. Doesn't slip if you're pulling a load.

Just isn't made for pulling any kind of load. I have it equipped properly to pull my 21 foot travel trailer and I have to travel at night driving in 3rd gear with my foot on the floor. Oh well, at 177,000 miles I guess I'm asking too much of it! I admit I need a bigger truck - I'm just to cheap to buy one.

General Comments:

A very comfortable truck. Seats are contoured just right.

A 700 watt chameleon radio with 2-12 inch woofers behind the seats really makes it rock.

Truck runs great for the high mileage.

Burns no oil with 177,000 miles.

16 mpg with careful driving is acceptable considering I only use it as a second vehicle when I need the truck bed to haul something.
