1997 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8 V6 from North America

Summary:

This is a fine people mover when taken care of

Faults:

Replaced three batteries over 100000 miles.

Wipers operate at various times when the switch is in the off position.

Front wheel bearing replaced at 90000.

Indicator lights on the center console flash for approx 10 min after start-up then operate normally.

Rear air-conditioner/heater unit has a slight leak.

Axle bearing in the rear differential is in need of replacement as is the rear drive line.

General Comments:

Unlike many other Caravan owners we have been very satisfied with ours. We got the big engine and base transmission in the AWD version. In 100000 we have had the transmission serviced twice which may be the reason that it has yet to be a problem.

Replaced the factory rear shocks with light truck shocks to reduce the body roll however this made the rear more bouncy.

Bridgstone Blizzacks make this a fine ski car for the family. The 3.8 provides enough power for mountain driving here in Colorado.

1997 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.1 ltr from North America

Summary:

So far, worth the $3500 I have put into it including the initial cost

Faults:

Belt Tensioner broke at 154K.

Window Wiper goes off itself on right turns.

Interior lights come on when you turn lights on for driving in the dark.

Car overheats in summer even though the thermostate was changed.

General Comments:

I bought this van 2 years ago used with 153K on it, and have put 10K on it. Transmission was leaking, so just had the pan resealed. Van handles well, and is pretty comfortable, though it has it's quirks. It's great for hauling. But I'm wondering now if I should sell it and buy something else after reading all the bad reviews on the van.

1997 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

These minivans are horrible!!!

Faults:

When my husband and I bought it new back in 1997, it was great. But a year after owning it, the brakes went on it. Then it was fine for the next 4 years.

Finally, the van was giving us problem after problem. We got rid of it after 88000 miles cause we could not tolerate the problems with the van.

General Comments:

As was mentioned above, the van was pretty troublesome. We got it cause we were first time parents. Little did we know that the van would be in the repair shop more times than we had driven it.

However, there was a big time when the van was trouble free. We wish that it had been more trouble free so that we could have kept it. Not so fast! Towards the end, the van gave us more problems that it was a nightmare to keep the damn thing. So we finally gave it up, and bought a 2004 Nissan Quest SE van.

If you like the Dodge Grand Caravans, that's fine. However, be prepared to have it in the shop more times than you will want it to be. These vans are fine to a point, but then problems will make you decide to get rid of it like we did.

1997 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3 from North America

Summary:

I like my van

Faults:

The previous one- nothing it was a 1990 Dodge Grand Caravan SE. The one I own now is a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan SE. My " service engine soon" light came on after I filled the van the first time. The 02 sensors are bad I replaced 1 of them. I still have to replace the other one. Something is wrong with the emissions because the "service engine light " came back on after 110 miles. I would say it should be a recall and that Dodge Corp should be responsible for repairs... There was more wrong, but I won't go into that now.. thank you for listening.

General Comments:

I really like the van and would love for it to be able to run the right way.
