1998 Dodge Neon Highline Sport 2.0 DOHC 150 horsepower from North America

Summary:

Good for daily driving, and racing

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car so far, seeing as I have had it for little miles. I hear they are notorious for head-gasket problems. I am 17 years old and I have turned this car into a drift car, and it takes the punishment well.

General Comments:

This car is fun to drive. Mine is custom made by me for drifting so I can kick it around any corner with a slide. Also a good daily driver. Gets me where I need and gets rather good gas mileage for a 2 liter Dual Overhead Cam engine. 18 miles in the city and 26 on the highway. But I drive it really hard, so the numbers may seem low to some.

1998 Dodge Neon Sport 2.0L DOHC from North America

Summary:

Consistant and Relaiable if Maintained!

Faults:

The head gasket really began to let go at 160,000.

The engine light routinely comes on, caused by the number 3 cylinder misfiring on a cold start.

The seats are totally uncomfortable.

General Comments:

This car has been reliable with not too many over the top repairs. The car now has 224,000 miles. I just put a new brake system in about 4 months ago, along with a new cooling system in around 215,000. I cannot complain to much with the original clutch and still averaging around 35 miles to the gallon. My main issue with the vehicle has been the number 3 cylinder misfiring but once the oil comes up and out of the pan, everything runs smooth. I reset the computer's check engine light by disconnecting the negative battery cable, waiting 30 seconds, and then reconnecting. This is the dealers way of telling me that this is really the only solution. It is a flaw since day one when it came from the factory.

1998 Dodge Neon Highline Sedan 2.0 SOHC from North America

Summary:

Good car if maintained, driven properly and taken car of.

Faults:

The transmission started to act up around 108000 miles. This is mainly because of my driving.

The Transmission is about done at 114000 miles. Still because I drive it hard.

The Primary Control Module is acting up. I don't know why.

General Comments:

When I first got the car I fell in love with it. And I have been to Hades and back with it. It has been a great car, but being an automatic the transmission just couldn't keep up with me. The engine still runs strong even with being ran hard for two years straight.

1998 Dodge Neon Sport 2.0L DOHC from North America

Summary:

Love it! Love it! Love it!

Faults:

Nothing major

-Replaced the muffler at 160 000km--$85

-Windows whistle.

General Comments:

Although I bought this car at 100 000km, I have only made one repair on it. I commute about 80km a day and thus have put A LOT of km on it.

This car is amazing! It still runs like new and is very cheap and reliable. Handling is very smooth and shifting is simple and quick. It is also a lot peppier than I thought it would be--pick up is incredible for a 4cyl. car that cost me $5000.

I was reading other reviews and cannot believe the problems people are having with their neons.

The car really doesn't ask for much. Oil changes and the odd gas treatment are about the only things I ever do to it and she is in great shape.

Bottom line... I LOVE MY CAR. And would buy another one in a heartbeat! I recommend it to anyone!
